To be successful, you've got to have a plan. This is true for anything in life, but especially in your career as a personal trainer.

Personal Trainers: Plan Now, Succeed Sooner

Success comes from great planning. This is the case in most of life, and especially in your personal training business. After all, without a plan, how will your clients meet their goals?

Without a plan, you may as well be planning to fail. Can you imagine a play without a script, well, okay but even improve has structure and guidelines? Kids' birthday parties even have plans. It's simple: you do not get the results you want unless you work toward them. So, know what you want and develop a plan to get there.

What is the difference between wishful thinking and a solid plan?

Foresight is first. Where do you want to be? You have to know your destination so you can effectively map out your path.

Just like you need to know where you're going, you also need to know where you're starting from.

Once you know where you are and where you want to go, you can more clearly define any possible obstacles that might pop up in between. Know why you want what you do, because having a reason will make it more meaningful and easier to work toward. At times, asking that yourself why may even change your vision of the goal. For instance, if someone has a goal of losing 20 pounds, but doesn't have a workout or meal plan to make it happen, the goal is worthless. If that same person wants to lose 50 pounds before a special event in the future, you can help him or her target a plan to move closer to that goal step by step.

Regardless of if you're planning for your fitness training business or a client's training routine, putting everything on paper is best. A plan set on paper makes it easier to hold onto and realize.

Once you have your plan on paper, don't stop there. Examine it and identify potential barriers that can hamper progress. Write those concerns down, too, and how you would address them. When you do this, you've got a "Plan B"." Things do not always go as we plan, so it's best to have a backup plan.

No planning at all ultimately leads to failure. Write it all down so you have tangible guidance as you strive toward your goal. Make a flexible plan that can deal with unexpected situations. Come up with a plan that is flexible by preparing backup plans.

Once you have your plan, define your fitness marketing strategy and work that plan.
