Personalized Pencils For All

If you have a small business, personalized pencils can be a great marketing tool. For starters, you can use and give away pencils and pens with your company name on them. This is what most people do, but you can be a lot more creative than this producing a better return on your investment.

The nice part about having your company name on the personalized pencils is that it increases your potential brand impressions. The thing that's not optimal about this is that there is now call to action. The best marketing tools gives your potential some sort of incentive to further investigate what your business has to offer. There are several ways to do this, I will give you some ideas, but coming up with a totally original call to action is even better. I know there are a lot of creative people out there, let me know what you come up with.

The first and most simple call to action on personalizing pencils is asking your potential customer to go to your website. This is technically a call to action but there's not a whole lot of incentive. There are a couple great ways to incentiveize this. The most inexpensive way is what I like to call the curiosity incentive. This takes a bit of practice, but essentially you don't really give away many clues on what the website is for or what it does. You can even set up a splash page specifically for this promotion. If you found a personalize pencil that simply said, "www.i-found-this-pencil.com", would you be curious? I think I would probably check it out. By the way, I just made this up, it appears this url is available, let me know if any of you register it! I'd love to hear what you do with it. So, you have your potential customer going to your "curiosity site" now what? Well, you could simply forward it onto your company page, but what's interesting about that. How about putting together a splash page like, saying something like "Hey, that's my pencil!" and then a little about your business and then say that the pencil is a gift for their time. You can get way more elaborate with this including entering a tracking code on the pencil to enter on the splash prize to win something, get a coupon, get a free ebook, etc.

You can also be a bit more literal on designing your personalised pencil. You can have your company name and address on one side and show this to receive (whatever you want.) Obviously, the higher value or the more interesting the incentive the larger your response rate will be. Whatever the offer, a good idea is to mix up your ideas and put them on different colored pencils. This is a really easy way to track which strategies are the most effective. Say you are seeing way more green pencils coming through your door than red or blue, then the green is your winning strategy. A next logical move would be to design a yellow personalized pencil to be similar to the green to fine tune your incentive.

So why not design personalized pencils, just because? Do you believe in a cause, simply want to be funny or be profound. Pencils personalized with obscure content no matter what it is can be a reflection of who you are. I had a writer friend that used to hand out pencils with embossed quotes on them. I have seen a pencil personalized with the message, "Have you done something nice today?" It gets you thinking. I think the sky is the limit on the creativity that can be used with personalized pencils.

Personalized Pencils are one of those items that are so accessible at such a low cost that they are very versatile in their use. We have seen how we can use them at work and they are just as useful at home. Designing personalized pencils for kids can be really fun. I know my kids love to design there own with a little help from me of course, I'm pretty sure daughter's pencil personalized with "I luv hoses" probably had something to do with her horse then the garden hose. Both my kids get to design their pencils for school and hand them out to their friends. It's something that they are proud of and a constructive way for them to express their interests.
