How to Create Your Personal Social Media Strategy

Using social media is easy for the young generations, as a part of their daily life. For the rest of us (over 30?), it's a bit of a different story. Many of us have too much clutter in our personal and professional life, with e-mail, job functions, family and what little spare time there is left.

So how do you declutter your social networking, so as not to waste time on what gives you nothing, since you have enough to do already? And how do you evaluate (and measure?) what is worth spending time on?

That's what this lens is about.

Is there a point to having a personal strategy for social media?

Is social media marketing just for businesses, or should everyone have one?

Yes! It is sound career planning with the bonus that you get closer to your friends and acquaintances.

EHune says:

As mentioned in the Groundswell blog, you can have different strategies for different social networks. Most people are professional on sites like LinkedIn, while you can see the same people being completely different on for example Facebook or MySpace. If you have a network where you can categorize your contact and put them into groups (family, friends, business contacts etc) it helps in creating different strategies. In the end you can decide which of your content is made public, which can have effect on both your career and personal life

No! Why should I need a strategy? I just use the social media I like.
