Expanding Your Personal Sovereignty

Ranked #13,856 in Culture & Society, #279,136 overall | Donates to Grameen Foundation

Promoting personal sovereignty, individual rights, and a just society.

The most status you can achieve is realized every time YOU decide to maintain or surrender your own personal sovereignty.

We can surrender or maintain our personal sovereignty against people, governments, our own egos. We not only get to make the choice, we can remake the decisions as often as we wish. The more personal sovereignty you retain, the more status you maintain.

While balancing relationships and autonomy we posses all the negotiating power we need. Our power is highest when we realize it is our own values we will uphold or dismiss. Choose your own balance.

Technology is changing the world. We get to try again, a mulligan, a do-over. As bureaucracies continue to fail, opportunities will arise for sovereign individuals.

Grasp opportunities for liberty and share them - the more enjoying personal sovereignty, the more secure your freedom becomes.

Voltaire

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be."

Celebrate The Epoch Of The Individual

Recover lost freedoms, it's not too late.

The bureaucratic era is collapsing, what wondrous opportunities await you as the new era begins?

Many countries are offering greater freedoms and opportunity, just as other are becoming more draconian. The larger trend is toward bureaucratic collapse.

Huge nations have a tendency to believe they exist to regulate their societies. Any activity or particularly any profit must need new laws written to control it.

"The more corrupt the state, the more it legislates." - Tacitus

Some small nations believe this is the way to get big and powerful - by copying the huge nations. This is like a start up company looking at General Motors and deciding they need 100 boards to make decisions, and constant meetings to operate "like the big boys."

There is a third group, Singapore, Panama, Hong Kong, and others that realize their economies will prosper, and hence their people, if they attract intellectual and monetary capital by being supportive of the creators of wealth.

Unlike petty despots that drain their countries to please themselves in the name of the people; some locations free their people and their economies to excel. The result is greater liberty, and greater wealth within these countries. The countries prosper, and so do their leaders.

These are the sort of countries that tend to be the flags in three flag theory. These are the locations people look to first when considering becoming a PT, or starting a new business.

There is a growing cadre of expatriates, or expats, from every nation. Some are just employees that are stationed outside their home country. Others have gone native and found a new home. Many however, are discovering greater freedoms and opportunities as Perpetual Tourists and are pursuing their personal sovereignty.

Wise countries are courting these individualists, realizing the productivity and creativity they infuse into the societies where they live. Tax incentives, economic citizenship, and improved communications infrastructure are some of the inducements being offered.

Expect the competition between countries for expat attention to expand as more netrepreneurs and knowledge workers (the netcohort) go P.T. Also expect a backlash of resentment from over regulated, highly taxed, repressive regimes suffering from "brain drain."

With the bureaucratic age ending, huge nations will have to adapt or they will dissolve and disappear. Smaller and more flexible nations are emerging as the transition to the new era begins.

Don't leave yourself, your family, or your wealth where it might be stomped on by the struggling giants of an age gone by.

Prepared Minds, Adaptable Thinking

The future needs flexibility.

Prepare for an era of unrest and disruption, this is not going to be a smooth transition. Stay out of the way of bureaucratic leviathans as they fall.

Personal Sovereignty and Americans

You have been branded. Leave their coral and you will be hunted.

We need a new approach to society -- allow abundance
The traditional, historic, American Civil Flag, to be flown anywhere not ruled by military decree. Ever see one? Ever even hear of it?

I heard from a reader of my PT- perpetual Traveler Squidoo lens. She had several folks trying to sell her "sovereignty packages," she wanted my help. I'm not a professional in this field so this was my reply.

I know of no absolute sovereignty available for individuals, that would be recognized by the United States.

Effective personal sovereignty is found using three flag or five flag theory and other strategies, but even this is quite difficult for Americans. The USA claims to own you wherever you live, and reserves "rights" over your life even if you renounce citizenship.

Of course the constitution says citizens have rights, not the government; it was written to protect those rights from government. In reality the Constitution seldom used in America, it is the bureaucrats and the elites that rule by decree.

"Where liberty dwells, there is my country." - Benjamin Franklin

You can be right, and still end up in jail, all your life confiscated. Justice: equal treatment for all; is ignored. Liberty dwells elsewhere.

In fact if you have enough money or status to be a public relations object lesson, they will come and get you in any country in the world. A bureaucratic nation is inherently unjust.

The most effective, and severe, method is to move to another country and become a citizen there. You can then enter an American embassy in that country and renounce your American citizenship. Very few do this.

Americans can legally have dual citizenship, but America will still claim you. Many do this, then keep a low profile as a way to avoid the very real dangers of being an American.

Get the free Sovereign Society newsletter mentioned at Speculation Rules. Get a few good books such as those listed in my PT lens. The Sovereign Society can put you in touch with lawyers that will answer your questions better than I can - they will be good lawyers with good current information. You will want to join their club eventually, perhaps attend a few of their weekend seminars in nice spots like Switzerland or Panama. There you can talk face to face with knowledgeable experts; no commitments required. No hard sell.

Make no sizable commitments until you have returned home and had time to think about the consequences.

I would avoid anyone promising you a passport or sovereignty papers - almost all are scams. A few countries, Uruguay for one, have procedures to acquire a passport for legal residents. Other countries, like Panama, can accelerate citizenship if you invest in the country - say a managed tree farm.

There have been groups that tried to set up independent countries with sovereignty for their citizens - much time and money has been spent, no luck so far. A few claim to have succeeded - but if other governments won't recognize their efforts, they are worthless.

There are now countries more free than the USA, but no place is guaranteed to remain free - including the US. Becoming a perpetual tourist is one solution.Life will remain unpredictable and dangerous, as a citizen or as a sovereign individual. With the later you at least have some choices.

"Liberty is always dangerous, but it is the safest thing we have." - Harry Emerson Fosdick

You can acquire more freedom than you now have, but it will require effort to achieve it. It is up to you to decide if it is worth your time and effort. True individual sovereignty - liberty, freedom, privacy - is for now only a dream if you were born, and wish to remain, American. If you wish to remain within a crumbling empire, review your civic duties.

    Excellent information.

Get a business that belongs to you.

If things get worse where you live, what kind of business will move with you, fast.

Here's the deal.

I've been successful, but It was always a bad choice. Doing things I didn't enjoy, because that's how you make money, doing what others avoid -- like sales. I found one or two things that were decent compromises, lots of change and mental challenges, and a few sales tricks to close a deal. But somehow I was always working for someone else, they or circumstances changed the rules, success and money fled.

I'm very comfortable financially right now, and I do what I want, like writing this epistle to you. My time could perhaps be spent more profitably offering get rich schemes to ignorant dreamers, but I don't need that type of money. I get a kick out of starting people thinking, opening their minds. And it's really cool when others follow my lead toward interesting things like personal freedom. That link is to a free online university I started, open content and open source. It has shaken some things loose, believe me. But I no longer get hate mail from professors and teacher's unions, I've become respectable.

Gotta end that.

Integrity Matters
Real business people still honor a handshake.

It's nice to be able to afford to do what's right, rather than what's expected of the drones.

This is a low percentage pitch, not particularly relevant to the pages content, nor filled with words that sizzle and pop. I suspect however that if you are curious enough to have read this far, you might investigate a chance to live your own life. I'm not offering instant wealth without work just for sending me money - those offers are always frauds. They sell dreams, the packages the dreams come in are seldom opened. It was the dream that was bought --an empty, soon forgotten dream.

If I were selling dreams I would send the reader to a closing page, and keep testing my wording here to increase my click through and closing percentage. But hey, you've read my story, that has no appeal. If you are the sort of person I think you are, you don't want dreams. You don't want to repeat my life - you want to live your own life. On your own terms. I'll send you to another of my Squidoo lenses where you can look at a few ideas that may work for you.

It's too late to worry about your past. Your future is yours to control. I'm not going to tell you to do this because you deserve it or you owe it to yourself. I will ask you to investigate this because I think you can expand to deserve it.

There will be links at that lens to even more information if you wish. Believe me, it's better than selling life insurance or living in a Dilbert cubical. In fact I bet you can become independent enough to create a university that makes mine obsolete. Somebody will. I would like it to be someone I've encouraged. By the way, for you I suggest step two and the bonus step, you can handle it:

"Civilization's development has always been initiated by individuals balancing demands within their intimate groups against personal needs for independence and identity. Social engineers and planners always error at this point. What they endeavor is to convert humankind from small, intimate, flexible tribes to a collective with one mind (their mind of course).

They want to make all the complex human herds and packs of individuals into a single hive of drones. They have always failed, they will always fail; for outstanding individuals will continue to emerge - imagining and accomplishing exceptional goals - changing everything."

"Away with the whims of governmental administrators, their socialized projects, their centralization, their tariffs, their government schools, their state religions, their free credit, their bank monopolies, their regulations, their restrictions, their equalization by taxation, and their pious moralizations! And now that the legislators and do-gooders have so futilely inflicted so many systems upon society, may they finally end where they should have begun: May they reject all systems, and try liberty; for liberty is an acknowledgment of faith in God and His works." - economist Claude Frédéric Bastiat 1801-1850
