A photo journal Perthshire Amber 2009

I was looking forward to visiting Perthshire Amber Folk Festival when I attended for the first time in October 2009. Little did I know just how wonderful an experience it was going to be. This is a record of a great ten days of music, companionship, workshops, demonstrations, workshops and photography.

The main venue was the magnificent Pitlochry Festival Theatre on the banks of the River Tummel. The whole event was hosted by Dougie Maclean and his family together with a wonderful band of friends and volunteers, all of them making it a unique and friendly experience. Together they managed to create a community atmosphere where true Highland hospitality shone through.

The Festival is named to pay homage to the wonderful autumn landscape in Perthshire in October and November each year. I can but wonder if the supply of the amber nectar from Edradour Distillery - May 09 and Dougie's selection aptly named 'CALEDONIA', a single malt whisky launched this year, may also have contributed to the name. Certainly the samples generiously provided on every concert night were gratefully enjoyed.

Dougie MacLean

Dougie is a renowned Scottish folk singer and songwriter. Most famously perhaps is his song Caladonia that has been adopted world wide - of it Dougie says he was taken by surprise by it's success, when he wrote it he was in France and feeling a bit homesick so he wrote - "this little song."
