Peru interesting facts

Caballo de paso is a native Peruvian horse breed. Its antecessors were horses brought in Peru by Spaniards. In Peru this horse breed is protected by law and nominated a cultural heritage. Due to more than 400 years of isolation, this is a very special breed. It is well known for its side walk step. From this specific way of walking derives its name: Caballo de paso.

Hairless dog is recognized as national treasure of Peru. Its origin dates to Pre-incas times. This interesting breed is characterized by lack of hair and high body temperature. Body temperature, that is three degrees higher than human, is due to heat compensation.

Chan Chan is adobe built city near Trujillo in northern Peru. It was built by Chimu pre-Columbian civilization. Chan Chan consists of several smaller cities named "citadelas" and was a capital of historical state Chimor. It is the second largest city built of adobe in the world. From 1986 is declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

Ceviche and Pisco Sour are Peruvian flagship food and drink. Ceviche stands for seafood made out of fresh fish and cooked only with a lemon juice. It is adorned with a special salsa and union. There are many typical restaurants named cevicherias serving this popular food. Pisco Sour is a national drink. It is a cocktail, made out of grape brandy, white part of egg, ice, lemon and cinnamon.
