Taking Pets on Airplanes
- Air travel is very stressful for pets, and you should consider this before taking your pet on an airplane. In addition, some pets should not travel by airplane. For example, if your pet is pregnant, only a few weeks old, very old or sick.
- Read and understand the requirements of airlines for pet carriers
- Choose a pet carrier that is strong enough to protect your pet in transport, but will not squash them.
- It should have sufficient ventilation on all sides to allow air to enter freely.
- Ensure the carrier will not open accidentally.
- Ensure your pet cannot get any part of their body through the air or door mesh.
- The floor of the carrier should be comfortable, with an absorbant pad to reduce leakage.
- Always follow airline advice and instructions.
There are also restrictions on the type of dogs that should travel on airplanes. Pug-nosed dogs may have difficulty breathing during air travel, and care should be taken to ensure their health is paramount.
When choosing suitable pet carriers for airplane travel, ensure that you check your pet's measurements thoroughly before purchase. Your pet's comfort should be priority.

- My bassets are staying home this trip. Better for everyone. I think te biggest hitch in flying with a pet is the additional cost. Ouch.
