Cat and Dog Collars
Before purchasing a collar for your pet dog or cat, you should carefully consider the purpose of this purchase. Many kinds of collars are designed for a specific use and should not be confused with an everyday collar used for a walk in the park or a decorative collar designed for eye appeal. Collars used for behavioral control such as excessive barking, or obedience collars such as choke collars are only used for limited time periods and are never to be used as a general purpose collar.
Knowing what you are looking for before making a collar purchase is very important, but just as important as the selection of the collar, is the proper fit of the Collar. Improperly fit collars may injure or maim your beloved pet, so always follow the two finger rule, which means two fingers should be able to fit under the collar without too much difficulty.
Popular Every Day Collars
Break-Away Collars:
These collars have a built-in safety first feature that is particularly useful for cat owners who wish to collar their pets, but want a safe method of release in the event the collar gets caught on some object. The break-away collar is fitted with a fastener that easily pulls apart when pressured by the cat's weight, thus preventing the collar from becoming a choking hazard.
Leather Collars:
Simply a flat, belt-like strap with an adjustable buckle and leash ring attachment. These collars do not tighten on the animal's neck when the leash is pulled taut. The leather should be of good quality with a sturdy buckle. Rolled leather collars are less apt to chafe in comparison to flat leather collars.
Decorative Collars:
Decorative collars for dogs and cats are hugely popular with pet owners who enjoy seeing their canine or feline companions "dressed up" so to speak, and looking their finest. These collars come in myriad designs and styles and can range in composition from fancy sequins to Swarovski Crystal, rhinestones, faux fur, etc. For example, beaded pet collar necklaces of hand-cut and polished crystal beads, nickel or brass studded or faux fur collars, and collars decorated with pearls and rhinestones have proven quite popular. It should be noted however, that certain of these decorative collars are strictly for adornment only, and are never to be used as a restraint or attachment to a leash.
Personalized Pet Collars:
These are collars that can be useful in identifying a lost animal or just as a novelty to display you pet's name. Made of leather, nylon or flat rubber cord, among other composites, the animals name can be displayed in cut-out rhinestone adorned letters, or the collar can be imprinted with name, phone number, etc. These collars can be used for everyday wear.

GPS Collars Can Help You Keep Your Pet Out Of Danger
GPS collars can be used to track your pet should he or she ever get away. This tracking can be exact to about one meter or three feet. The term GPS means Global Positioning System. These days, GPS chips are so small that they can be hidden in any pet collar, or even implanted underneath your pet's skinOnce activated GPS dog collars can send real-time data directly to a portable receiving station in your house or car. In fact, new technology has made it possible for GPS Collars to send information to cell phones and laptop. If your pet has gone far, you can send information about his location in real time to police or fire departments that will find him and keep him safe until you arrive.
Never lose your pet again - get a GPS Collar for him or her. It feels and looks like a regular collar, and is completely safe and harmless to your dog or cat. GPS collars can even be made for birds and specially fit ones can be put on some reptiles.
GPS Collars have other uses as well - for example, when driving or hiking with your dog, the collar can help both of you know where you are. You can put the small GPS cat collar in your pocket and use it to know where you are even without your pet present.
There are too many stories about dogs wandering off into dangerous areas, or cats getting out and fighting with animals much bigger than them. Slowly these stories are being replaced by tales of dogs and cats wearing GPS collars and being rescued before they get in harm's way. Add your pet to the list of animals who were saved by a GPS dog collar or GPS cat collar.
Learn what farmers already know in order to track expensive cattle, and what many parents have learned in order to track their kids, use GPS technology for piece of mind!
GPS chips can provide a pet owner with a sense of security and comfort, but they should never take the place of all other preventative actions one would take to ensure their pet's safety. These GPS chips might augment what you already do, but they should never take the place of your current methods of watching over and protecting your pet.
