When I was growing we always had a dog in the family and I can't remember a time when we were dog free.
Then when I married we kind of upped the ante by always having two dogs in our home. And we always seem to pick out dogs that love to shed and leave their hair everywhere - and I mean everywhere.
When they lounge on the couch or sleep on the bed, they'll leave a trail of hair. On the stairs, under the kitchen table, in the corners and under the bed are all good hiding spots for dust bunnies. If you have a cat or dog you know what I am talking about.
I use to really stress about having to constantly buy new vacuum cleaners because the hair would clog up the motor and I use to spend a small fortune on vacuum cleaner bags.
But since I finally got smart and now use a vacuum cleaner that is made specifically to pick up animal hair - life is so much easier. No more tossing out vacuums or still seeing hair after I vacuum.

There have been many changes since the first iRobot Roomba for pet hair vacuum was released. Now with a larger dust (and hair) cup, a the charge does last longer and longer pet hair does not get as tangled as with previous pet hair models
Although you will still want to pull out your full size vacuum every few weeks to do some extra cleaning, you'll find that this newer Roomba version does a very good job of pick up hair, dander, kitty litter and more.
Dyson DC25 Pet Hair Vacuum With Ball Technology
You will find that this Dyson vacuum may cost a bit more than a standard vacuum how many vacuums have you had to toss out due to the pet hair mucking it all up? With this Dyson animal hair vacuum you have a 5 year warranty and with the cyclone technology you have the same suction at the beginning of your vacuuming session all the way to the end.
You won't start losing suction after the first few minutes, so you can go over your rugs and furniture once, knowing that you don't have to go over them a second or third time just to get all the dirt and dander up.
The only drawback to this model is the size of the dust cup. It could have been a bit bigger and you may find yourself having to empty it before your session is over. However, I'd rather have to empty it more than once, and knowing that it is picking everything up then not filling up the cup due to a vacuum leaving dirt on the carpets.
This vacuum does come with on board accessory tools including a stair attachment and a wand. If you also have bare floors in your home you may want to purchase an optional hard floor tool so that you can vacuum your whole house without having to pull of a broom for your bare floor rooms.

I don't know if you have ever used a Dyson cyclonic vacuum right after using your current vacuum but if you do decide on purchasing a Dyson be sure to try it. You really will be amazed at the difference.
It does have a larger dust bin than the DC25 model so there is less emptying however, it doesn't have the ball technology so it is a bit harder to maneuver (similar to a standard vacuum).
This Dyson also comes with an attachment kit and has a 5 year warranty.

The first thing that you will notice about this animal hair vacuum is that it has a 12 amp motor which is strong and powerful and that it is a 2 stage cyclonic type system. With cyclonic action you won't start losing suction as soon as you start to pick up a bunch of dirt or hair.
Although it has cyclonic action it is not the same technology as a Dyson ( and you also won't pay as much as a Dyson) so that is a bit of a trade off. However, don't think that this vacuum is a lazy one - no, it is very powerful especially with its 12 amp.
One really nice features is the attachments that come with this model. There are a few optional pieces that you can pick up but you are probably not going to need them - the accessory assortment is great and much nice than on even models costing much more.

The Furminator
Although my dogs at first were a bit scared of having a new brush used on them, they quickly settled down (well not really I had to chase them around the house) but once I started to brush them with it, they quickly calmed down and to my astonishment the Furminator actually worked. It is one of the easiest deshedding tools that I have used and my dogs also seem to enjoy it more than the deshedding comb which can sometimes grab on to a knot.
Don't let the reasonable price & silly name shy you away from trying it. The Furminator actually does work well to get rid of excess loose hair and undercoat and helps to keep some of the hair off of your rugs and furniture.

When researching steam vacs and carpet shampooers I was very impressed that this model had over 750, 5-star reviews and 250, 4-star reviews at Amazon. There were a few not as glowing reviews but many were related to a leaking problem and one customer actually addressed this and said that those who had mentioned the leaking were forgetting one important but simple step when assembling this steam vac.
The Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge has a 12 amp motor and the clean surge feature gives extra burst of cleaning solution for spots or stains. It has 5 spinning/scrubbing brushes clean carpets, upholstery, bare floors which is a nice plus.
It should be noted that like other non-professional steam vacs, this machine deep cleans with hot tap water & the carpet solution and not full steam like a professional machine. However, it also doesn't have the cost of a professional machine and does do an excellent deep cleaning job as stated by product owners.
