Reptiles such as iguanas, thrive in habitats like the one I made for my pet iguana.
My pet iguana had a nice sized terrarium with a sand floor that included a heat lamp, a hot rock to help him digest his food that he liked to lay on, and a piece of driftwood on which to relax. Not to mention an owner that cared for him very much. You can see him relaxing on a piece of driftwood in the photo.

What do Iguanas Eat?
Feeding an Iguana
My pet iguana ate something called monkey chow which was recommended to me and I found at the local pet store. This gave him his needed protein. He also liked collard and mustard greens. After eating, they like to rest on a warm surface to help their tummy digest. This is why a hot rock needs to be included in their habitat.
I enjoyed owning and caring for my pet iguana about 15 years ago. Since then, many iguana products have been introduced into the market.

Do your research beforehand to determine which food will be best for your iguana. They have food for young and adult iguanas.
Iguanas as Pets
I would often let my pet iguana out of his terrarium to roam around my house. When he was a little guy, I tried a reptile leash or harness that I picked up at the pet store. I don't think he really liked it too much. You just can't walk your iguana like you walk a dog. Keep your pet iguana out of trouble with a harness or leash
Remember, it's not like walking a dog
Here are some iguana leashes and harnesses that ebay has to offer. It's fun to check these out.
Iguana Terrarium
Creating a nice habitat for your pet
When looking for a habitat for your Iguana, a terrarium is the great choice, which is where my pet iguana made his home. There are also open air screened habitats available. You want to find a place he can grow into, because HE WIILL GROW! Iguana Habitat
Information on Iguanas
If you let your iguana out of the terrarium to roam around the house, be sure to look after him. You don't want the environment to be dangerous for him. My pet green iguana would often run up the curtains. They like to climb and get on top of things. They can sit still for long periods, but will run when you try to grab them. Be careful because they will also bite you. Mine bit me several times on my fingers, usually on a knuckle. There were times I had to really work to carefully pry his jaws open. He didn't draw blood, but it hurt a little. Unfortunately, like all other reptiles, they aren't the warmest, friendliest pets to have. Cold blooded creatures are what they really are. :) Iguana Care
Caring for your pet green iguana
Keeping his terrarium or cage clean by replacing soiled sand, is important for your iguana's health. Make sure you feed him regularly, and keep water available. Use the heat lamp at certain times, but only for appropriate lengths of time. Keep your iguanas hot rock plugged in. Some drift wood is nice to have for your iguana to climb on and around.
Heat lamps help give your pet iguana the proper environment that they need
Warming Stones or Hot Rocks help your pet iguana digest his food

I am an animal lover who grew up with a fascination for reptiles and amphibians. If I could have had a T Rex for a pet I probably would have. Thanks... more »
