Pet Taxidermy
Warning: This is a bit gruesome
One of the comments left on the video was about the poor daughter who's going to be told about her rabbit by when she's handed a stuffed one!
How Do You Prefer Dealing with Pet Aftercare?
Traditional forms of body disposal are pet cremations or burials. Many people have trouble with letting go of loved ones and pets are no exception. We can't (or don't) stuff people but would you do that with your pet to keep it with you?
Old style taxidermy skins the animals and places the skin on a styrofoam mold. New style taxidermy freeze dries the pets which does not include skinning them.
And then there's the new trend of making a gemstone from your pet ashes or hair (you can do this with people as well).
Which do you prefer....

Taxidermy or a gemstone to keep my beloved pet nearby...
Ener-G says:
Watching some videos on making gemstones from loved one's ashes. It puts a new meaning to "blood diamonds."
RinchenChodron says:
Hmm - a gemstone sounds interesting. Maybe? Actually my last cat just got buried in the ground - no box or anything. Pretty natural.
Cremation or burial works for me....
miaponzo says:
I would bury my pet as any other body would be.
Margo_Arrowsmith says:
Zoe was cremated and when Leo goes I am going to take them to her breeder and ask to spread the ashes of both
awakeningwellness says:
I think looking at my stuffed dog everyday would upset me terribly, I choose to let the body go knowing that the spirit is still close.
Squidoolinepro says:
Traditional burial for me too...!
Ener-G says:
A simple burial or cremation works for me. And I don't want the ashes parked on my mantel or in a closet either! I let them return to the Earth as it was meant to be.
Michael Jackson's Hair Turned Into Diamonds
This one is just about as sad as the bunny video
The Rainbow Bridge: The story of where our pets go
This is a photo of a freeze-dried dog
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

- We lost a guinea pig and knowing the end was near I got them all a small heart keepsake from http://www.jewelrykeepsakes.com/ and we put some of Jefferson's ashes in it. My kids are 12, 10 and 8 and where it wasn't easy, I do think the keepsakes help.

- Very, very hard especially when you have kids. We lost our first family pet a year ago and I have three school age children that were absolutely devastated. My wife bought them each a bone keychain http://www.evrmemories.com/silver-plated-timeless-keychain-cremation-urn-p/evr1055.htm and filled it with some of Buddy's ashes and gave it to each of them for Christmas. They absolutely treasure them and it went a long way to helping them with their grief. We all miss him every day and I don't think you ever totally get over the loss of a pet but there are a lot of things you can do to help with the grieving process.

- She was old and hurting. Leo is going to be harder because other than some sore back legs, which I give him gluclosemine for, he is much better and it will be harder to see him go.
