- Having been through animal companion loss twice in the last few years, I am very aware that however profound the loss is, society does not recognize that loss as it does other family deaths. Grief is deep for a lost friend, whatever kind, and it is so helpful to be able to have that accepted by the community that you exist in.
I did receive some sympathy cards for my losses, and they meant a huge amount to me: they meant that my grief was respected and validated outside my household. This is a lovely resource.

- I had never heard of pet sympathy cards until my daughter (who is a pro pet sitter) bought one for a friend. I then made one or two on my Zazzle website but now I see how a pro does it.

- Pets are family to me (in fact, they have meant more to me than my biological family, in my youth). I wish employers granted some kind of bereavement period to those who lose a pet. The loss of that unconditional love is so hard, but I keep mementos to remind me that one day . . we will be reunited (and I hold onto knowing they are no longer suffering). Adding this to a devoted section in my lens, 'Living Articles on Squidoo.' Hope it helps!
