Petra, the Christian Rock Band

Petra's a Christian rock band that has broken up, but two of the members are touring as II Guys from Petra.
The band is one of the greater bands from the 1980s.
The best part of their history was when they got into light metal and got a singer who could sing things like "Love" and "Prayer".
Why I have to classify this as Petra, Christian Rock Band is that searches for just the name Petra bring up other odd things like Petra Nemacova and Petra in Israel.

I got creative with the artwork for the picture. I combined the windmill theme from "Sight Unseen" and decided to make a globe which was inspired from the "Just Reach Out" video.

Petra History

Petra is a Christian rock band that started out in the '70s. The only member to stay the entire course with the band is Bob Hartmann.
Their last album of new songs was "Jekyll and Hyde" but they made a final album of their concert tour in 2006. The best part of the album was the John Lawry solo unfortunately because for some reason John Schlitt wasn't allowed to sing at his full operatic potential, which was kind of sad.
Greg X. Volz was the original lead, but the band really took off with John Schlitt and a new sound. They might have been trying to compete with Stryper. (Fun fact: John Schlitt was a reformed mainstream artist from Head East--maybe that's why he really knew how to belt the lyrics).
Anyhow, the band was at it's best when the members were:
John Schlitt, John Lawry, Bob Hartmann, Ronny Cates, and Louie Weaver.
They were great as a band and I was surprised that they never got to be as big as Stryper--although they had a lot of great hits for the Christian market and won a Grammy. (Maybe it was the lack of costumes).
My favorite albums:
Beyond Belief, Unseen Power, Jekyll and Hyde
Other songs I like:
Whole World, Midnight Oil, Just Reach Out, Not of This Word, The Coloring Song--to name a few.
