- Pet Rats are very social and they are often best kept in groups.
- Males Rats are called Bucks and Females are called Does. Young Rats are known as pups or kittens.
- Rats become sexually mature at 6-8 weeks. After this time it is important not to keep male and female Rats together.
- Rats are nocturnal creatures. This means they are most active during the night.
Pet Rat Care Don'ts
- Never pick your rat up by his or her tail. It will hurt your rat and is cruel. Use both hands and support the rat's hind legs so it is not hanging by its front legs.
- Do not breed your rats without fully knowing what it entails. Breeding rats is a large responsibility and it is important that you are ready and willing to commit to the care of all your pet rats.
- Do not house male and female rats together unless you are ready to take responsibility for the offspring.
- Do not feed your rat by sticking food through the bars of its cage. The rat will begin to think that anything you stick through the bars is food and may even bite your fingers.

My sister just got a rat his name is Max my granparents gave it to her. He is gray and 3 months old we give him saltine crackers with peanit butter he loves it and the peanut butter is healthy for him. We also give him a wood block with a nut inside so it will keep his teeth sawed down. (hope my advice works)
