Review of Petzl Meteor III: an Ultralight Helmet for Climbing

The Petzl Meteor III has two great buying points: first, it is one of the most ventilate helmets available on the market. Second, it is extremely lightweight.

The number of vents slots of the Meteor III maximizes airflow turning it into an ideal helmet for climbing during warm weather. Unfortunately, this same characteristic makes the Meteor not the best choice for using during winter. For the occasional winter trip, it is possible to wear a hat to resolve the problem. But, if most of your climbs are in winter, you might consider buying other helmet instead of the Meteor.

Weighting only 8.2ounces, the Meteor is really an ultralight helmet. Petzl uses a compressed foam shell to make the Meteor so light. As a result, it is similar to a bicycle helmet. In theory, this kind of helmets is less durable and tough than more traditional harness suspension ones. But, Petzl is so confident on the Meteor that it backs it up with 3 years of warranty.

In addition, the Meteor III is a very comfortable helmet to wear. It comes with four simple latches for attaching your headlamp. And it complies with UIIA and CE safety specifications. A great buy for climbers searching for an ultralight and breathable climbing helmet to wear in warm weather.
