2009 PGA US Open
June 15th will be right around the corner which means that the best golfers in the world will contest the Black Course at Bethpage, NY for the 2009 U.S. Open.
The 2008 U.S. Open will go down in history as one of the most exciting in golf history as Tiger Woods struggled to victory with a busted knee. El Tigre's already growing legend took a leap into hyperspace as he limped his way to victory!
Will Tiger win back to back U.S. Opens?
If history is any indication, then Woods has a huge shot as the last time the U.S. Open was held at Bethpage, in 2002, Woods won.
But so many questions surround Woods going into this U.S. Open that gambler can't be blamed if they decide to wager on Sergio Garcia, who started the final round in 2002 only 4 strokes off of Tiger. Garcia failed to menace and ended up losing by 6 strokes 7 years ago, but he's a much more consistent golfer now and won't fold under the pressure like he did in 2002.
Then, there's Phil Mickelson who made a nice run on the Black Course in 2002 but just couldn't catch El Tigre. Lefty made a similar run in this year's Masters only to fall short. His mind will be on closing the deal at the Black Course.
Garcia and Mickelson aren't the only ones who figure to challenge Woods for the 2009 U.S. Open trophy. How about Padraig Harrington who won both the PGA Championship and the British Open in 2008? Or what about young hot shots Sean O'Hair and Paul Casey? Both have won a tournament in 2009.
Then, there's old pros Ernie Els, Vijay Singh and Davis Love the III. All three will be looking to remind gamblers that they haven't gone anywhere.
This year's U.S. Open promises to be one of the most competitive in years!
