Phantom of the Opera Plot
Christine Daaé's father told her many stories involving a character known as the Angel of Music. On his deathbed, he tells Christine that he will send the Angel of Music to her. When she gets into the chorus at the Paris Opera House she begins hearing a voice she believes to be the Angel of Music. The Angel agrees to teach her how to sing heavenly - and she does! Under her new mentor's tutelage, Christine becomes a star. The Angel, however, turns out to be Erik, the Phantom, a disfigured and embittered man who lives under the Opera House and who wants Christine forever.

Original Song: Phantom of the Opera
Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford
This is the eternal song that plays in my mind when I think of The Phantom of the Opera. This does not detract from Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler's 2004 film version, of course, but I can feel the emotion and suspense in this song as if I am watching the musical. It always gives me chills.

A fantastic adaptation! Emmy Rossum as the innocent doe-eyed Christine Daae and Gerard Butler as the tortured Phantom make you almost believe you are seeing it onstage. I watched this in theatre and it was long with - of course - no intermission. A solid performance and I loved it.
