"POKER TRUTH" was an anonymous poker discussion board poster from several years ago. He once made a post in which he presented his observations and opinions about Phil Hellmuth's tendencies and general style of play. I have reproduced that post here in its entirety. "When Phil sits at your table in a tournament, you know he's there. If you don't know him, he'll tell you who he is. Then he'll go on about how great he is. His mouth is one of his weapons that he uses against you, more so if he doesn't know you. If you happen to re-raise him before the flop, you'll receive a tongue lashing. He does that shit for a reason. So the next time you'll be more careful when you re-raise him. He'll say,"You keep coming over the top of me and I'm gonna bust you. I'm gonna pick up the Kings and have you drawing dead. You keep firing buddy cause all the chips will end up here baby." Phil raises many hands, and depends on knowing what the re-raises mean. It's a big edge to know people are too scared to raise you without aces. Phil pretends he can see through your soul. He can't see shit. He is successful because of the reputation he has created. Don't get me wrong, he can play some no limit poker. But you all can exploit his weak perception of you all. He honestly thinks he is the only one who can play the game. If you haven't won a bunch of tournaments in your life, he automatically sees you as a nobody. As a nobody, all you have to do is show one good hand when you re-raise him. You don't even have to do that. You can re-raise him all day long and he'll just keep talking and folding. He says he is going to bust you and all that shit. But he is too chicken to make a play at you after you re-raise him. He puts his tail between his legs and throws his hand away. He thinks he is so good a player that he can wait for the nuts to put all his chips in. In the meantime, you can rob him blind until he gets the nuts. It's that simple, really. Math is on your side. If he is raising 30% of the hands dealt, he will fold to your re-raise 80 to 85% of the time. Just cause he tells you not to fuck with him, doesn't mean you should listen. He doesn't want to play big pots with you, so don't play his game. Put big chips
in when you decide to play with him."
