Philip Pullman Fan Lens

Philip Pullman is an award-winning British author. His most famous work is His Dark Materials, a fantasy trilogy for children which draws it's influence from Milton's Paradise Lost. He is currently working on the fourth book of the series entitled The Book of Dust.

Three reasons to love Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman may have not sold as many books as J.K.Rowling, but he is without doubt a superior writer. The trilogy His Dark Materials has won the some of the highest accolades in British literature and stands as a true classic, exploring themes such as identity and religion.

His books are not only challenging, they are also great fun to read. It is this skillful combination which makes him one of my favourite living writers and one worthy of his own page on Squidwho.

I love the way P.Pullman can make you love a character as well as hate them. I find myself in some of his characters, as I'm sure everyone does who reads his books. He can make you really FEEL for what the character is going through, perhaps more than other authors? And of course, I ,ove the fact that he is so contraversial, and his stories surprise you all the way to the end. Does anyone know of any official online fan clubs?

Jordan, it has been my experience that people who are religious are offended by people who have non-religious views; have religious people ever considered that non-religious people are offended by the tenets of your faith? Philip Pullman is simply creating a story that parallels some of his ideas of faith... why does that make him stubborn? Before you go on another tirade, please think about whether or not you are being just as "stubborn" as Pullman.

I strongly disagree with Pullman. I found his books boring and unintelligible, (I think he just throws in the biggest words he can find) and I don't like his outlook on life and religion. He should have more respect for people who, unlike him, can see and imagine and have spiritual contact in Christianity.
If he were to recieve an award, it would be for being the absolute stubborness and blinded, troubled and disturbed person in this good Earth god created.
