The Philippines is divided into three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Manila, on the island of Luzon, is the country's capital and is the second largest city after Quezon City, also in Luzon.
Today, some of the most popular past times of Filipinos include basketball (Philippine Basketball Association), Philippine Food and dining out in general. Night life in the Philippines is also very alive. Friendster in the Philippines is also very popular. As for the economy, one cannot deny that the boom of Call Centers in the Philippines played a major role in the improvement of the economy and the strengthening of the Philippine Peso.
Philippine weather is hot, humid, and tropical. This is mainly the reason why Philippine tourism is booming with westerners trying to escape their cold weather. The average yearly temperature is around 26.5 degrees Celsius. The 3 seasons are: the hot season or summer from March to May, the rainy season from June to November, and the cold season from December to February.
Most of the mountainous islands are covered in tropical rainforests and are volcanic in origin. The highest point is Mount Apo in Davao at 2,954 meters above sea level. Many volcanoes in the country, such as Mount Pinatubo, are active. The Philippines is also across the typhoon belt of the Western Pacific and is hit by an average of 20 typhoons per year. She also experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activities being on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
