Monophobia is an acute fear of being alone

Is there something that troubles you so much, you avoid it at all cost?... Even changing self destructive behaviors?

One way to become who we hope to become is by addressing what holds us back. It may often feel threatening, overwhelming or just plain impossible - with the right guidance and tools, along with a little insight and education in this area you may truly surprise yourself!



Social Phobia 

aka Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is the fear of social situations that involve interaction with other people. Put another way, social anxiety is the fear and anxiety of being judged and evaluated by other people. If a person usually becomes anxious in social situations, but seems fine when they are alone or with family, then "social anxiety" may be the problem.

Some common triggers include:
Being introduced to other people
Being teased or criticized
Being the center of attention
Being watched or observed while doing something
Having to say something in a formal, public situation
Meeting people in authority ("important people/authority figures")
Feeling insecure and out of place in social situations ("I don't know what to say.")
Embarrassing easily (e.g., blushing, shaking)
Meeting other peoples' eyes

What it might feel like:
Anxiety, intense fear, nervousness, automatic negative thinking cycles, racing heart, blushing, excessive sweating, dry throat and mouth, trembling, and muscle twitches.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
This is my approach to working with social anxiety. It is treatable and results tend to be very good!

Self-Sabotage 

Fear of Success may also been attributed to Atychiphobia: Fear of failure. Negative self-talk leads to self-sabotage and more... Let's meander down this road.

Examples of where you may be secretly sabotaging yourself while wrongly assuming you're strengthening your position with others.

Expressing contrived concern for someone's well being.
Making small talk to smooth out the edges.
Hanging onto someone's every word.
Looking for someone's approval.
Asking if someone is angry with you.
Fishing for positive feedback or a kind word.
Trying to impress someone.
Gossiping.
Explaining yourself to others.

Is the opposite of Self-Care, Self-Sabotage?
Does it ever seem like you're working against yourself? Do you ever ask yourself - Why did I do that?? Sabotage: the act or process tending to hamper or hurt" or "deliberate subversion".

Why on earth would anyone want to sabotage themselves?
Here is the complicated and simple answer. It is a choice.

Generally, it can feel uncomfortable and somewhat threatening to imagine changing, growing or making conscious choices that we deliberately hamper our own efforts. "I make choices every minute of every day". "My life is up to me". Those are intimidating thoughts. And doing things the way we've always done them feels safe and comforting, even if they may be unhealthy or no longer serve our needs.

How Can I Tell the Difference?



Anxiety Can be Normal and Beneficial

As we journey through life, there are many important life events, both good and bad, that cause varying amounts of anxiety. These events can include things such as, a workplace promotion, taking a school exam, getting married, becoming a parent, divorce, coping with illness, etc.

The discomfort anxiety brings in all of these situations is considered normal and even beneficial. Anxiety about a an upcoming job promotion may cause you to work harder and smarter while increasing your visibility. Anxiety you feel when walking through a dark and deserted parking lot to your car will cause you to be alert and cautious of your surroundings.

Problem Anxiety

Anxiety is normal and can even be beneficial. But, for many people it becomes a problem. The main difference between normal anxiety and problem anxiety is in the source and the intensity of the experience.

Problem anxiety - persistent worry tends to be irrational and interferes with many life functions, may be so intense that they cause family, work and social difficulties. and includes physical responses (such as palpitations and stomach upset). Note that when distorted thoughts become a source of excessive worry and behavioral changes affecting the usual way one lives life and interacts with others when left unmanaged, may lead to an anxiety disorder.

Physical Illness

Problem anxiety has been indicated in a variety of physical illnesses, such as heart disease, stomach problems, and pain. Get a checkup.

Anxiety is easily controllable, and its complications are easily avoidable with treatment.

Taking time out to care for yourself can remind you and others that you and your needs are important, too.

A Better You
People who neglect their own needs and forget to nurture themselves are at danger of deeper levels of unhappiness, low self-esteem and feelings of resentment. Taking time to care for yourself regularly can make you a better caretaker for others.

Self care is also an effective way to manage stress for the following reasons:

Time Alone:
When you're relaxing by yourself, it's much easier to slip into a state of quiet meditation,

Soothing:
Giving your body some special treatment is a natural way to relieve stress.

How to nurturing yourself, consider the following suggestions, or come up with your own.

Get a massage

Take a soothing bubble bath

Take a time out and put on some relaxing music

Get A pedicure or manicure. Yes, you men too!

Go to the water - take a walk on the beach, build a sandcastle or rent a boat and float on the lake (fishing pole optional)

    Awesome lens, 5 stars for you!!! Just to add on your wonderful writing, EFT training results with phobias are often extraordinary. In most cases, the problem vanishes within a few minutes of applying EFT and the former phobic can, with no fear whatsoever, sit in a dark, locked closet, walk into small crowded rooms, be wrapped up in a blanket, and so on. The result is usually permanent.

    For those who don't achieve instant relief, EFT is still likely to resolve the problem. However, in these cases more sophisticated approaches are usually necessary. Sometimes we must apply EFT to several phobic events before the problem is permanently resolved. This usually involves 1 to 3 brief sessions.
