Where to sell your photos

Microstock Agency recommendations

Here are my recommended microstock agencies. As I am quite new myself to this (less than 1 year) I have not gathered as much info as I would like. So bear with me, I will post up new info as soon as I can.

Introduction

what it takes to submit

Ok, first off, selling your photos on microstock sites is not a get rich quick scheme. Can you get rich? Yes, if your style of photos are popular. After all, your photos will still have to be purchased by someone. Just ask Yuri Arcurs (video at the bottom of this lens).
So how do you start? Well first off, you need a camera capable of meeting the minimum requirements for submission. this is usually 4-6 megapixels. I suggest a minimum of 10 megapixels because no matter how good a photo is, you probably want to do some editing plus you can print to A4 sizes. The general rule of thumb is the more megapixels, the less your image quality suffers from editing.
I have recommendations for serious hobbyist and aspiring pro equipment below.
Then you will have to learn some techniques. Don't worry, I've got that covered with various lenses (you'll see them at the bottom). Or you can head over to my WEBSITE or my BLOG.

This site is aggressively seeking contributors. They have a promo going on right now where they will pay you for every photo that you upload and gets approved up to $100 USD ! ! ! This is on top of any commissions you earn on sales (commissions can be as high as 60%).

Initial contributor screening involves uploading 5 photos which must be accepted prior to being approved as a contributor. Takes about 2 days.

If you are at all interested in selling your photos, this is one opportunity you don't want to miss out on!

Don't delay, check 'em out! I've included the banner/url for ya!

Stock Photography

Must submit 3 images for review prior to being approved to upload and sell images. Approval process is quite quick as is the photo review process, review time on average thus far is 2 days the quickest of all these sites. Slow to generate sales so far.
This site is a bit slow on the tech support side. In my experience, I've had my gallery show someone else's images but credited to me, as well as images not showing up at all or showing up as a black square. It took a few emails and months before it was fixed. Approved images also take a while to show up in the gallery.

Tied for 2nd highest acceptance rate

Must submit 10 images for the approval process. Avg. 3 days approval time for photos. Payout per download is around $0.35. Site is not as easy to navigate as the others. Less stringent acceptance policy, slow in generating sales.

Summary

Things you must know

Each stock agency has it's own criteria of judging the quality of your photo and therefore have different acceptance policies. Also, each agency has their own clientele and therefore they know what pictures they want or feel they can sell. The site has your best interest because they need your photos as stock to sell.

Having said that, you should try to upload to as many sites as you can. It can get time consuming and tedious. Hey I never said it was easy. However, there are certain programs and stuff to make things easier.

Don't get discouraged if you photo(s) get rejected because there will be a reason given. You may be able to fix it and resubmit. At the very least you will have learned what to improve on. This means shoot lots, submit lots because you'll never know what people will buy. I've had shots that I never submitted but was seen on my website and requested for. Also shots which I thought had little resale value but turns out it is currently my highest downloaded image!!

Stay tuned because I'll have that info somewhere...
