iTag Free Software.....
iTag is a free tool that adds title, description and keyword tags to your jpg photos - with powerful search features too.
The greatest software idea since the digital photo! From the website the author says, "The idea for iTag came about when I was scanning photos from some old family photo albums. I found many photos with people and places I didn't recognise and wished that more captions had been written against the photos."
iTag is a FREE software program that you download from the Internet at iTagsoftware.com
Why tag your photo's? The biggest reason that I love this program is so I can locate a picture at a later time. I am sort of a "professional" photographer and I take thousands of photo's. Just titling a picture just isn't enough. Tagging puts your tag words into the "digital file." It does not show up on the photo itself. Its really easy to use.
Here is an example of how I recently used iTag photo tagging system: I had taken about 1,000 pictures of my son's baseball team over the season. Yikes...that's a lot of photo's. With a little help, I tagged all these photo's. This was my first "tagging" experience. I was in charge of making a team photo collage. I used the "search" feature of iTag and easily found, and narrowed down each team members photo. It was so easy and I really could not have done it without iTag.
I typed in the search box: cardinals, ryen. Up pops all the pictures of Ryen. I hand selected the best photo's for the collage and then repeated this for all the other team members.
iTag software is not an online storage site. However, I recommend that you "tag" your photo's before storing them online or on CD. Tagging will put your description "digitally" in the photo file. Putting your mouse over a photo, a description of that photo will pop up momentarily. Tagging your photo's allows other to see your tags even if they don't have the iTag software.
iTag photo software is great for using with scanned family photo's. I recently have been using for my collection of very old scanned photo's. A title can only be so long, but tagging can as long as you need it. Example of a tag, " Smith, family, group photo, 1900, outdoor, los angeles, mary, dan, bill, bob."
iTag works a little differently than tagging photo's like in Myspace.com which tags the people in the photo to links their myspace page.
I have also included some of my favorite photo gadgets and websites.
If you click on this image your computer will open another window to photobucket.com. If you save this picture to your computer, my image "tags" will be attached. You should see tags like: longmire, cardinals, june 8, tournament etc. Scroll over your saved picture to see the tags. So cool.
iTag is to your photo's like Google is to searching the web. It helps you locate what you are looking for.

My FAVORITE Online Storage Sites-FREE
- PhotoBucket.com
- I use this for obtaining "codes" needed for many website that use photo's like myspace.com and squidoo.
- Snapfish.com
- Download your photo's. Order prints etc. This has a "Snapfish Picture Mover," that automatically detects when you plug in your digital camera or other photo device and automatically downloads to their site. Don't even have to think about this one. It does it all for you!
- Very Popular Flikr by Yahoo
- Upload and add tags...has settings for private or public viewing of your photo's. Easy to use. This is an online photo storage and sharing website. (I recently clicked on one of my photo's that I had uploaded to this site. I re-saved it to my computer and viewed it from my computer. It was greatly reduced from its original size.) Most online storage sites will reduce your photo site for storage. Since, iTag photo tagging is a software program on your computer, your photo's maintain their original size. There are other online storage sites that will ask you if you want to store for the smaller reprints sizes or for larger print size which takes longer to upload.
