Norwegian landscape photography
Photography is my passion. I love to preserve with my camera wonders of nature, volatile mood created by light and seasons, unusual composition of colors, sometimes simply tranquility of a moment.
Some of the the photographs presented here are taken by me during my trips through Norway, others are taken by different photographers.
All of them can be yours. You can buy them from Allposters.com or from Zazzle e-store, either in traditional form of prints, postcards, posters, calendars or transferred on mugs, mousepads, magnets, iPhone cases and can be personalized to fit your individual needs.
Are you looking for a gift idea? Why not consider a photo gift with a picture of beautiful Norwegian landscape- majestic fiords, mountains peaks, cute wooden cottages?
Hardangervidda Plateau
This particular photo, entitled "Stone Guard", was taken on Hardangervidda plateau during early autumn, the time when colors of nature start to become pale and gloomy and temperature drops to zero degrees Celsius. The pile of rocks visible on the photograph is a typical view of Norwegian landscape, as they are used to mark paths in the wilderness, keeping guard over trekkers and hunters.
Hardangervidda, located between Bergen and Oslo is the largest mountain plateau in whole Europe and a national park. Due to the height above sea level it has a harsh climate all year round. Despite the climate, Hardangervidda is characterized by extensive alpine and arctic flora and fauna, among others herds of reindeer, local birds and rodents, like lemming.
Waiting for Winter
At the edge of Hardangervidda Plateau
This photo , entitled "Waiting for Winter", depicts Norwegian plateau at the end of autumn. The picture shows also a "hytte", typical Norwegian wooden cottage, used all year round as starting point for outdoor activities: hiking, hunting, ski touring, Norwegians favorite way of spending their free time.
Moors covering the plateau are already frozen due to low temperatures at night causing yellowish color of grass and moss, the sun is shining at lower angles, creating very calm and tranquil mood as nature awaits winter. Animals living in the area - lemmings, reindeer, birds - are preparing for harsh winter season.

Forests cover 37% of Norwegian territory, concentrating especially in eastern part of the country, which is a little more flat and mountains there are resembling rather hills. Forests are populated by various animal species, like moose, fox, squirrel, hedgehog, beaver, hare, wolf.
Geiranger Fjord
Geiranger Fjord seen from Ørnevegen
Fjords are landmarks of Norway, drawing countless visitors- tourists, photographers, climbers. This particular photo of Geiranger Fjord was taken in May, time of the year when there is still snow on the mountain tops and the salt waters of the fjord have this incredible emerald color.
Geiranger Fjord, is probably one of the most known and magnificent Norwegian fjords, belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The fjord is located south-east from Ålesund. The road leading from Ålesund is called Ørnevegen, the Eagle Road and indeed, a car driver feels like an eagle swinging on its hairpin turns and having the deep, cold waters of the fjord long way beneath you. Well, typical Norway one might say :)
Lofoten Islands
Stockfish on Lofoten Islands
This photograph is taken in the end of June, during the fishing season. You can observe the typical landscape of Lofoten Islands - wooden constructions with tons of cod hanging on them for drying and spreading well ... a peculiar smell ;)
Lofoten Archipelago is situated on the northwest part of Norwegian Shelf, on the Arctic Circle, but the climate here is relatively mild but somewhat wet - like the whole western coast of Norway- thanks to the Gulf Stream. The islands steep rocky mountains seem to raise directly from the cold waters of the Arctic Sea, while the small pieces of land between the mountains are almost flat and inviting to cycling tours. Lofoten islands are connected by bridges, sometimes extremely narrow and curvy, which makes driving on them very exciting, especially during frequent storms
Sandy beach near Reine, Lofoten
Most beaches in Norway are very rocky and not easily accessible. One of the areas where beaches are nice and sandy are some parts of Lofoten Archipelago. Here the deep, cold sea mildly meets steep, wild, high peaks of Lofoten mountains, but the Archipelago shows also its another face - sandy, inviting beaches in calm bays hidden among the mountains.
This area is also quite popular among surfers despite rather low temperature of water and air. This dramatic scenery is captured on the photograph above.

Folgefonna Glacier
This photograph depicts a mountain lake, lying at the feet of the Folgefonna Glacier, one of the biggest glaciers in Norway. The glacier is located in west Norway, about 200km from Bergen.
The lake is easily accessible, but little known among regular tourists. That enables the lucky visitor to contemplate the power and beauty of nature completely undisturbed.

Mountainous Marina
Marina in Bergen
Bergen, the previous capital of Norway (looong time ago) is beautifully located on the west coast of Norway. The marina shown on this image, placed in the very center of the city, at the feet of Mt. Floyen, attracts many sailors, especially in the summer, but also is a part of the Bergen harbor, hosting large ferries and cruise ships, stopping by on their way towards nearby fiords.

- Stayed at Hardangerfjord on vacation many years ago and really enjoyed it. Great scenery everywhere and perfect light for taking photos. Flam railway round trip by train, boat and coach was a highlight, and skiing in summer on a glacier - must return at some point.
