10 Tips For Taking Better Pictures

1)Look At Your Subject At Eye Level:

Direct eye contact can be as engaging in a picture as it is in real life. When taking a picture of someone, hold the camera at the person's eye level to capture the power of their spirit. When taking picture of children this means getting down to their level.
It not always necessary for your subject to stare at the camera. By itself the eye level angle will create a personal and inviting feeling that will pull its onlookers into the picture.

2)Use A Neutral Background:

Using a plain background shows off the subject you are photographing. When there is a lot of activity in the background it will take away from your subject.
When you look through the camera viewfinder, look around at the background to make sure there is nothing that will interfere with the photo.

3)Use The Flash Outdoors:

a bright sun can create unsightly facial shadows, making it hard to see your subject clearly. To get rid of the shadows use your flash to lighten your subjects face. When taking pictures of people on sunny days, turn your flash on. Your camera may have a choice of fill-flash mode or full-flash mode. If your subject is within five feet, use the fill-flash mode; beyond five feet, the full-power mode may be required. With a digital camera, use the picture display panel to review the results.

On cloudy days, use the camera's fill-flash mode if it has one. The flash will brighten up your subjects face and make them stand out. Also take a picture without the flash, because the soft light of overcast days sometimes gives quite pleasing results by itself.

4)Move In For A Close Up:

If your subject is smaller than a car, take a step or two closer before taking the picture and zoom in on your subject. Your goal is to fill the picture area with the subject you are photographing. Up close you can reveal telling details, like a sprinkle of freckles or an arched eyebrow.

There is a limit though if you get too close your pictures will be blurry. The closest focusing distance for most cameras is about three feet, or about one step away from your camera. If you get closer than the closest focusing distance of your camera (see your manual to be sure), your pictures will be blurry.

5)Move Your Subject From The Middle Of The Frame:

The middle of your picture is not the best place for your subject. Bring your picture to life by simply moving your subject away from the middle of your picture. An easy way to do this is by playing tick-tack-toe with your subjects position. Imagine a tick-tack-toe grid in your viewfinder. Now place your important subject at one of the intersections of lines.

You'll need to lock the focus if you have an auto-focus camera because most of them focus on whatever is in the center of the viewfinder.

6)Lock The Focus:

Most auto-focus cameras focus on whatever is in the center of the picture, so lock your focus. If you don't want a blurred picture, you'll need to first lock the focus with the subject in the middle and then recompose the picture so the subject is away from the middle.

7)Learn Your Flashes Range:

The number one flash mistake is taking pictures beyond the flash's range. Pictures taken beyond your flashes range will be too dark. For many cameras, the maximum flash range is less than fifteen feet-about five steps away. Position yourself so your subjects are no farther than ten feet away.

8)Watch Your Lighting:

Next to the subject, the most important part of every picture is the light. It affects the appearance of everything you photograph. Bright sunlight shining from the side of your subject can enhance wrinkles. Meanwhile, the soft light of a cloudy day can subdue those same wrinkles. For landscapes, try to take pictures early or late in the day when the light is orangery and rakes across the land.

9)Switch It Up, Take Some Vertical Shots:

All sorts of things look better in a vertical picture. From a lighthouse near a cliff to the Eiffel Tower to your four-year-old niece jumping in a puddle. So next time out, make a conscious effort to turn your camera sideways and take some vertical pictures.

10)Learn To Be A Director:

Take control of your picture-taking and watch your pictures dramatically improve. A picture director takes charge of its subjects.
A picture director picks the location: "Everybody go outside to the backyard." A picture director adds props: "Girls, hold your flowers just so." If you want to have your pictures look a certain way, DIRECT YOUR SUBJECTS!

There are lots of ways to make some extra cash by taking pictures.

If you:

• Love taking picture and take pride in your work

• Own a digital camera

• Know how to use your camera

• Know a few tricks of the trade

Anyone can make money in photography, as long as you know what you're doing. Playing for a high end professional photographer is ridiculous!

When I was getting married and looking for a photographer, I was blown away at the prices people were giving me! We opted to go with a photography student,

1) Need the experience

2) Didn't charge us up the rump for our pictures.

And you know what....our pictures are beautiful....and we only paid $400 and received a CD of all our pictures. Some of our wedding pictures are above!

I don't want to miss lead you, not everyone is cut out for photography. You need to take pride in your work and with that comes lessons. If you already have a good digital camera you're half way there already, and if you have the motivation/drive you're three quarters of the way there.

It never hurts to take some lessons, or at least do LOTS of reading up one how to become a better photographer.

Photographing Weddings....Tips and Tricks

Photographing weddings can be wonderfully fun yet stressful. If you would like to start getting into the wedding photo business my number one suggestion is offer your services for

FREE

as a secondary photographer. This will let you see how a professional does things and also will help you build your portfolio. It's best to start off with friends and family weddings, that way you it's easier for you to get into the swing of things.

Tips For Photographing Weddings

1) Create a 'Shot List'

Talk with the couple and get them to explain all the shots they want. ex) Bridal party, Grooms men, family shots.
It is also very important to discuss with the bride and groom family shots. Who is all needed in the shots? It can be hard to gather everyone together once the party starts rocking. Make sure you have a runner to go and look for anyone who might be missing from a family shot. A good idea would be to ask the bride and groom if there are any kids that would be willing to help. Throw the kids $10 to help gather anyone you need. Kids are usually so bored at weddings and probably wouldn't mind helping you out...cash is always an incentive.

2) Know Your Location

Visit the locations of the different places that you'll be shooting before the big day. This will help you know where we're going and will give you an idea of a few positions for shots. Also keep in mind natural light. What time of day is the wedding, light can make or break pictures.

3)Be Prepared

Always have a backup plan in case of bad weather.Ask to attend the rehearsal, this will give you an idea of what to expect during the wedding - were to shoot those perfect photographs. MAKE sure you have extra batteries, memory cards, an extra camera, everything can think of. Talk to the couple about how many shots they want, what key things they want to be recorded. If you're charging them for the event, make sure you have the agreement of price in place up front.

4)Shoot The Little Details

It never hurts to take pictures of everything. Take pictures of menus, center pieces, the backs of dresses, their rings - this will give them more memories for their album.

5)Don't Be Afraid to Be Bold

You need to be in the moment at all times. Scout out key locations to get those perfect shots. Standing from above, down really low. Playing with different levels will help give your picture more dimension.

6)Continuous Shooting Mode

Having the ability to shoot a lot of images fast is very handy on a wedding day switching your camera to continuous shooting mode will help get those beautiful candid shots.

Sometimes it's the shot you take a second after the formal or posed shot when everyone is relaxing that really captures the moment!

    Victoria,

This is a marvelous lens, one to be very proud of, indeed! I am giving you five stars, for sure.

I found, upon a fairly quick review, the following typo--you may wish to correct it:

"I find that a of of photographers think they can charge..."

I will keep this lens on my favorites, as I need to learn more regarding my use of my little digital camera.

    My best regards,

    Paul
