Art and Photography

I am an artist and my main vehicle of expression is through the medium of photography. My camera is my paintbrush. I photograph anything and everything that catches my eye. I work very intuitively and many times see things in a very unique way. Often I continue enhancing my photos in photoshop. Many times I mix media, by scanning paper creations and collages I've made, as backgrounds. Sometimes I photograph my mixed media paintings and collages and incorporate them into my photos. I also create collages/montages on the computer. There is also something new to discover and through photography I can record my new discoveries and sometimes come up with a 'masterpiece' too!

Transformation

Abstractions in a Digital World

I created this digital painting (also known as a photo montage) by incorporating elements from two different photos and electronically painting in the rest. It was a very intuitive process. I was very pleased with the way it turned out. I intend to put it on a big canvas through the Giclee process.

Photographing Still Lifes

"Pears, A Still Life"

Still Life, a pictorial representation of inanimate objects. The term derives from the 17th-century Dutch still-leven, meaning a motionless natural object or objects.
Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia

A still life is a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, plants and natural substances like rocks) or man-made (drinking glasses, cigarettes, pipes, hotdogs and so on) in an artificial setting. Popular in Western art since the 17th century, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Something as simple as three pears arranged in a pleasing composition becomes an artistic still life. I thought this was enhanced by being rendered in black and white with one pear in color.

I like still lifes because they are a great way to study form, texture, composition and light. This is an exciting way to master the elements of design which I believe is essential to becoming an accomplished artist.

And last but not least, inanimate objects don't get impatient with you if you take too long to compose a picture and you don't have to tell them to smile or worry about them closing their eyes!

FLOWERS

Bud and Bloom

Among the many subjects I love to photograph, flowers are some of my favorite. Of course roses are the subject of many an artist throughout the ages, they are a timeless perennial. This lovely pink beauty surely fits that description!

Magnolia

Rendered with a watercolor effect.

I wanted this photo of a magnolia to look more like a painting. The watercolor effect I chose, gave it the exact look I wanted to convey.

Painted Red Tulip

A Masterpiece of Nature

This flower was looking more like a classical floral so I chose a fresco look to convey what it represented to me.

BRIDGES

Mackinac Bridge Fantasy

This image of the Mackinac Bridge is a digitally painted photograph. Sometimes I like to make a pictorial presentation with a little bit of a twist. I've seen many pictures of this bridge but never one quite like this. I also have this image available in black and white.

LIGHTHOUSES

Old Mackinac Point Light

I've always been fascinated with lighthouses. In the past few years, I have photographed several great lakes lighthouses. Mackinac City is a very picturesque place to visit. Got lots of great shots including this one.

Seagull at Sunset

Lake Erie Islands Sunset

This picture allows me relive the serenity that I felt when I captured it. It was taken from Catawba Island looking toward Port Clinton. If you have never been to The Lake Erie Islands, they are a great place for a little getaway.

Rock and Roll Kiss

A Wedding KIss in front of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

I have been featuring all of my non wedding photography on my blog and this lens. Although you can visit my website to see my wedding, portrait and special event photography, I decided to put a Cleveland Wedding Photo on this page. It is a timeless classic pose of a groom dipping and kissing his bride in front of Cleveland's own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You can also visit my WEDDING LENS
