A Better Place to Learn, Shop, & Research...All Things Photography

I am a professional photographer and have received my associates in Commercial Still Photography.  I created this lens to give photo enthusiasts a place to surf helpful links, review personally recommended products that professionals use, and a place to get advice or answers to questions involving the "next step".

In the links section, you'll find sites containing information on open submissions, alternative/experimental photography methods, online photography supply companies, photographic communities, online photography magazines, and professional and student organizations.

Throughout the rest of the page, you'll find recommendations on products and detailed reasons I recommend them.

Note the Q&A section, I offer to keep your questions private as to not feel embarassed, but realize you are probably not the only one with the question.  If I've learned anything in my years as a student, there are 1,000,000+1 questions that need asked.  I'll be a student of the craft my entire life.  You'll never know everything!  And, I have a great network of professional photographers as friends, if I can't answer your question, I likely know someone who can.

"All Things Photography" News & Updates

(admin only)

If you are truly considering a GREAT education in Photography and live in the Midwest, I STRONGLY suggest visiting Metropolitan Community College in Elkhorn, Nebraska (a suburb of Omaha, Nebraska).

Metropolitan Community College continually receives nationwide recognition for the student work coming out of their programs. Don't let the fact that it's a community college distract you from consideration, this would be a HUGE mistake!!!

Benefits?

How about no lab fees? Four different darkrooms! 3 studios stocked with top-of-the-line equipment!

How about access to the finest equipment to check out on a regular basis for free? INCLUDING Large Format cameras!

How about a small student to teacher class ratio?

How about well-established instructors of the craft? Instructors with work hanging in some of the most prominent galleries or museums in the world?

How about excellent funding to the program from the school?

Regular Art and Photo Club shows? Including "Hot Shops"?

Regular "Visiting Artist" seminars!

Granted, you can get a good education at one of the nearby Art Institutes but NEVER at the minimal costs or student/teacher ratio that MCC provides.

Keep in mind, I am speaking as an Alumni student. I am also speaking on behalf of MCC at no benefit to myself. I would also like to note the NON-competitive student relationships I had the pleasure of having (and still have). This isn't something you'll find at other schools. Many of you already know the snobby competitive attitude in art-related programs, you will NOT find this here. The Director of the program strongly promotes helping one another build. :p

Important Must-Know Tips for the Film Using Beginner

New tips added daily, check back!

-NEVER, keep film stored in your car. If you are on a road trip, keep film in a seal-tight bag in a cooler. (preferably with one of those blue ice blocks not actual ice)

-If planning to use film that's been refrigerated, wait at least 30-45 minutes before use. (this allows time for condensation to evaporate)

-If taking a trip via airplane, either buy film once you've REACHED your destination and have it developed BEFORE returning home OR purchase appropriate protection container specifically for airline security passage scanning.

Fur - An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus

One of the most influential woman photographers of the past century, this imaginary portrait of Diane Arbus is beautifully twisted and poignantly expressive of an artist's private thoughts.

Photography Q&A

There are NO dumb or silly questions in Photography.

You can request that your question not be displayed on this page. Just remember, many others probably have the same exact question. Don't be embarrassed.

If not a request for advice or a question, leave me a comment. I welcome all feedback.
