Photo Repair Software

The world of photography is moving at an incredible pace. Seems like only yesterday we were taking photo's in black and white - and now everyone is running round with digital cameras.

One thing that isn't going to change, however, is the multitude of great old photos from the past. Many of them - whether or not they're as old as the one to the left - will start to show signs of age, such as fading, staining, scratching, bends and even pieces going missing.

Question is, does the digital photography world have anything to offer, which can eliminate these problems? Can you get some photo repair software that will help you repairing photos, maybe even organize them, and produce new, lasting copies of your treasured memories?

The answer is, of cause, YES! In fact there's a good few photo repair software suites available that will do just this, and much, much more.....

Photo Repair Software - Battle Of The Titans

Adobe vs. Corel - Who comes out on top?

When it comes to photo repair software - two software suites stands out as the titans in this field.

Photoshop by Adobe and Paint Shop Pro by Corel. It's a bit like the battle between Apple Mac computers and PC's, and funnily enough this is also where this battle stems from!

Photoshop was originally designed to run on Apple Mac, the platform most often used in the print and publication industry, and as such it is seen as the more "professonal" of the two packages, although for most users there's not a lot between the two packages.

Today, however, Photoshop is available in a PC/Windows version as well as on the Apple Macintosh.

Paint Shop Pro was originally developed completely opposite to Photoshop - as a Freeware program for Windows PC's. The old versions of the program, up to version 4.12, is still available on a number of download sites. Make no mistakes though - PaintShop Pro is more than a cheapskates way to professional photo editing.

The main difference between these two photo repair software suites seems to remain the same - with Photoshop being the choice of the professional industry and PaintShop Pro for the enthusiast amateur. Which one is for you is then up to you - and the size of your wallet.

Long ago, when we were getting started we tried a lot of different photo editing software. Nothing came close to the options and flexibility we got with Photoshop. Once you know how, you can pretty much do anything with it. There are a few video "tutorials" we put up on our site that deal with photo restoration - all showing the awesome power of photoshop in action. Check the videos out and let me know what you think!
The website is same as my user name so ePhotoRestoration.com.

I am a professional photo restorer and would recommend photoshop to anyone who want's to get involved with digital photo restoration. I agree with the above post that photoshop is expensive and does have a steep learning curve. however, the application really is amazing and worth every penny and to learn how to use it you can just go onto youtube and you'll find literally thousands of video tutorials regarding every aspect of photoshop. to see what photoshop can do feel free to have a look at some of my work - Iridis Imaging - Photo Restoration.

Photoshop is the grandfather of all photo editing software - but has a learning curve and price tag to match. I find that Paint Shop Pro does a job that most people would find just as good - and at a small fraction of the price. In fact, I think looking for free software to do the job would be a waste of time.
