Obtain some good mountain photography tips
-
Shoot Pictures at Dawn or Dusk
It helps because you avoid shadows on your subjects and not risk exposing your subject to too much sunlight -
Use a Filter
The type of filter and polarizer you use depends on the amount of lighting that is present when you are taking the picture. Be sure to know which one to use when, or if you need to use one at all. When not used correctly, the filters could adversely affect the quality of the picture. -
Use a Tripod
Using a tripod improves your stability and also allows you to attempt shooting from different angles that could create unique pictures. -
Watch out for the weather
The weather up the mountain could change much faster than anticipated. So be prepared for anything! -
Explore the place before you start shooting
The minute you get up a mountain, you are so overwhelmed that you just begin shooting anything and everything. Sadly, these only result in shots that are usual and routine. The trick is to first explore the area, take a deep breath, enjoy the beauty and observe the details around. This would be the key to getting unique shots from new angles. -
Get a more balanced picture
Along with mountainside, snow and sky, there would be more value to the picture if there were other elements like trees or a structure. Look out for the framing feature too.
How to Take Breathtaking Sunset Pictures
1. Plan your shot
Firstly, you should note what time the sun would set and get there about half hour before. You would need to prepare yourself to be ready and start shooting soon as the actual sunset would probably last about half hour.
It is also important to decide where the shots would be best. Although sunsets could be spontaneous, scoping the region a day or two in advance and setting up some potential photo spots could create better pictures that includes favorable foreground elements like mountains, trees or any structure.
It is also important to watch the weather. Good sunset pictures do not necessarily need a clear sky. It is sometimes clouds, dust and hazy skies that create marvelous sunset pieces. Each day and each weather type results in completely different beautiful sunset pictures. Photographers should aim to experiment and try as many scenarios as possible.
2. Keep your equipment ready. Remember time is short and of the essence.
Some essential necessities for the best shots are
a.A tripod
b.Lenses that offer a wide range of focal length
c.Extra Batteries
3. Use Different Focal Lengths to Create Different Effects
Lenses with longer focal lengths, of about 140mm and up would place more emphasis on the sun, making it look like a big disk. Shades and silhouettes of surrounding items could be used to add character to these pictures.
Shorter focal lengths would help you capture the sky with a wide angle and capture the transition from day to night. The sun would look small in these pictures.
4. Sunsets aren't only about the sun
Although the sun is the focus of sunset photos, at times it would enhance the photos if there were other points of focus, such as silhouettes of surrounding trees, structures, people, boats etc. They add on to the mood of the picture and makes the picture look amazing instantly, adding more context and depth to the picture.
5. Use Manual Focus
Some cameras do not focus well under extreme lighting. It might thus help to switch to manual focus mode to avoid blur shots and get only crisp and perfectly focused shots of the beautiful sunset in front of you.
