Photoshop Beginner Tutorial - Gingham Texture

In this tutorial I want to show you how you can make a simple, but nice Gingham pattern with Photoshop CS3. The result will be seamless tiling.

You need to have basic knowledge about Photoshop to follow this tutorial.

This is a beginner tutorial and it will be very easy for you to get a nice result.

I'm using the german version of Photoshop, but I hope you can follow the tutorial without problems.

Step 01

Open a new document - 400 x 400 pixel

Step 02

Add a new layer on top of the background layer.
Make a mask with the size 20 x 400 pixel and fill it with a color of your choice

gingham

Step 03

Deselect all.
Duplicate the layer with the colored stripe.
Move the stripe 100 pixels zu the side.

Step 04

Step 07

Rotate the new layer and move the stripes a bit to the right to get the following result:

Step 08

Change the opacity for both layers to about 50 percent. You can experiment with different settings.

Step 09

Merge all layers and save the file and/or add it to your Photoshop pattern.

Hi Jimmie, I don't use Gimp but I'm sure you can make such a texture with it too. All steps I did with Phoptoshop were done with very basic functions which should be include in Gimp (and all other graphic applications) too.
