Photoshop and Other Image Editors

Photoshop is a great tool.  No longer do you need to work in the darkroom to make images.  With Photoshop, Gimp, or one of many other programs, you can work in the light.  What a concept, eh?

Photoshop is a complicated program that takes a few minutes to learn the basics and a lifetime to master fully.  Of course, this makes it a lot of fun because you can continually learn new things, and you can do things with software that weren't possible in the darkroom.

Transition

This is a composite image, meaning that two completely different images were merged together to make an interesting effect. More information on the technique I used to create this transition are in the comments from Aug 18th, 2004.

Tulip

The image of this tulip was created completely from Photoshop using mainly the pen tool.

Eagle

Eagle Shore was originally rendered using a 3D program called Bryce. The eagle is a photograph that was mapped to a 2D plane inside of Bryce. I used Photoshop to extract the bird from its background by using a combination of the extract tool and zooming in to erase little bits of leftover background. It was a tedious process, but I hope you agree that it was worth it.

I also used Photoshop's unsharp mask to sharpen everything up a little, as well as the "levels" tool to balance the image's contrast.
