Digital camera's.. should kids have them ?

I was reading an interesting story the other day about some posts by a woman named Judith on a blog she put up after she lost her digital camera. This is the gist of the story.. Her original plan was to gather photos taken by other folk who were traveling where she was, but the story went seriously "dark side" when a Canadian family contacted her to tell her that they'd found her camera... and that they didn't feel like giving it back cos thier kid wanted to keep it.

There was a huge scream of "mass murder to the offender" from week end warrior dueling banjos types, you know the sort that like to eat dehydrated foods by choice and nearly everybody in their family has triple barreled names ending in "bubba junior" . man...when I read their comments I almost wet my knickers. I could almost picture the fur trimmed dungarees'.. I'm from the UK and reading the comments about this camera didn't stop me imagining the scene of them to cutting the grass and finding a rusting pickup.. Anyway I digress a little, these "ima jus laying these here rat traps up in them there hills dog and wallet on the same chain, rag for gas cap types" were getting pretty aggressive I thought.. don't get me wrong I don't save whales...although I would help an old granny across the road if I ever saw one..(im usually driving to fast anyway..) but I did think it was a little over the top and then you had the other side of the coin/ blog/ lawyers legal case.. to the erroneous and most of the time ambiguous "whatever.. get a life" type.. I think losing a camera that cost over $500 warrants a little Spanish inquisition don't you.. at least a poke in the eye with a verbal sharp stick to the individuals that refused to return her camera. Ok you lose the cam but the photos are whats important... right.. ok it depends what the photos are of.. if its of the cats arse then no probs.. but if its that once in a life time important photo, then you drop it onto canvas at http://www.put-photos-photograph-to-canvas-print-picture-poster.com .. hey was that a down right in yer face commercial plug of my website.. er hum..
There were some people begging her to post the name and address of the family so they could receive a free tutorial on proper behavior; there were also Canadians appalled that fellow Canucks were behaving badly, but hey .. honestly are all candians that nice? I haven't been to Canada so I don't know.. it looks nice in the atlas though.. I heard they were Nautical but nice, Oh -- and very good marijuana, comes to mind for most Americans.. or so Ive read on another web site. If there is a "nice people " test.. bit like a set of bath scales but for niceness out there please mail me and let me know.. Id be interested to see where I fall in the sea of weight for wickedness . Anyway I digress further.. the story continues - the legal advice and offers of a new camera from the crew at Worth1000, I thought was good. They are the milkmen of human kindness and they left an extra carton.. I checked out their web site.. its like what the rapture is for evangelicals.. its like a geeky camera karma ying yang thing.. the first image that loaded on their website was a delightfully really old looking camera.. 1700 circa ish , the sort of thing that looks really cool, worth a fortune, but Jessop's don't do any film for it.. it was all leathery accordion looking.. the red neck chuckleberrys would probably try and get a few notes out of it then use it as a draught excluder.. I digress further.. the hills have eyes type people continued to throw threats against / pranks to play on the family and their child who wouldn't return the afore mentioned lost camera.. it made for entertaining reading .
The usual "something like that happened to me" chorus; chirped in time to the steady beat of the hill bellies' drones..bellies? To much red meat. Anyway if the "something like that happened to me" people were true to their statement then the whole of earth would be littered with a plethora of digital cameras that nobody would want to return.. and I aint seen any lying around in Birmingham UK.. True they be stolen quicker than you could fill out an insurance claim. You gotta understand where I live its that bad thieves have to put their names down on a waiting list. I digress totally..the usual "I don't believe any of this is happening" people also joined the throng like a mantra speaker on acid followed by the usual "I don't believe you don't believe it" counterpoint.

The general outrage was something to behold, with a lot of variations on "this makes a person lose a little faith on humanity" -- which makes Judith's eventual response to the situation even better. I like this Judith person and hope it all works out for her; she's definitely a better class of human being that the lady that went over to the twilight zone.
So what do you think.. should young children have cameras.. snapper or snapped.. the camera is in your court
