FREE Digital Photo Editing ★★★

iPiccy is a free, completely web-based photo editing and sharing application to give users everywhere the ability to quickly and easily edit, enhance and share their photos from any Internet browser. There are other web based editors like Photoshop Express, Picnik, and Citrify but iPiccy's is a new (Spring 2011) entry that is a strong competitor to these services. iPiccy provides new, easy-to-use tools for modifying pictures, using advanced image processing.

iPiccy offers a clear and easy interface allowing users to pull images from any Web site or file folder on their computer. iPiccy includes an extensive variety of easy Web-based photo-editing tools such as Auto-fix, Rotate, Crop, Resize and Color adjustment and Sharpen which you have come to expect in any photo editor. But in addition, iPiccy can also be used to turn photos into creative masterpieces, with clever special effects like liquify, painter, vignette, pencils, and many more. Some of these are features you would have to upgrade to premium service with other online photo editors. Like Photoshop, it even has an advanced photo painter that works with levels for the most complex types of photo editing.

If you want a robust tool that does a lot of different editing, then Picnik was your tool. Unfortunately it is being phased out - but check out this lens to see information on potential replacement services.

Photoshop Express is a web based and free version of Photoshop. Photoshop is the name of a brand though some people think it is a generic term for photo editing.

Sure it's a less featured version of the expensive Photoshop software. That said you won't miss many of the exotic features as this tool is targeted at mainstream consumers, not professionals. Photoshop Express is a free - all it requires is an easy registration.

Fotoflexer is quickly giving Picnik a run for the money in features. Not as popular yet - but I have had a ton of email on it lately.

Tuxpi is a easy way to apply photo effects or picture frame effects to a photo directly from a webpage. you only need to upload a photo, apply a photo effect or picture frame and the re-download it the modified photo result. Every effect is one step! So it's a not a full service photo editor - but what it does it does with ease! It has several effects not easily found on other sites - filmstrips and newscast are great to create fun photos.

Pizap is a fun free photo editor that lets people easily create wacky images with their digital pictures. Not as fancy a website as Picnik but an amazing number of features are available via one-click on LunaPic. Especially powerful with easy to build animations. Crete cubes, add effects, zoom, crop, remove blemishes - you name it! They say "Pimp Your Profile Pictures for MySpace and FaceBook" and indeed they make it easy to move photos to those sites.

Bloggif, is a great one step photo editor. It is also a great tool for creating animated GIFs online! Boggif offers you many tools to easily realize photo editing for free. Then you can download your creation to integrate it on a blog, a profile or any other service. If you don't like the Bloggif logo in the lower right corner there is a fee to have that removed - but I have used it several times without bothering.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

I prefer the web based tools as I work from many different computers. But, when you need more functionality for a free price - GIMP is the way to go.
