PHP - A Definition
PHP, or PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, is a widely used, general-purpose scripting language that was originally designed for web development, to produce dynamic web pages. It can be embedded into HTML and generally runs on a web server, which needs to be configured to process PHP code and create web page content from it. It can be deployed on most web servers and on almost every operating system and platform free of charge. PHP is installed on over 20 million websites and 1 million web servers.
PHP was originally created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995 and has been in continuous development ever since. The main implementation of PHP is now produced by The PHP Group and serves as the de facto standard for PHP as there is no formal specification. PHP is free software released under the PHP License, which is incompatible with the GNU General Public License (GPL) because of restrictions on the use of the term PHP.
PHP has evolved to include a command line interface capability and can also be used in standalone graphical applications.

Learning PHP seems to be easy at first, and it really is. Only one you can do simple scripts and you start to go a bit deeper, you should start to seriously study the language!
Not knowing what you're doing can lead to very nasty experiences. PHP is powerful, and if you program something that leaves the doors to your website wide open, some hacker will find and exploit it!
Best is to go step by step, and to read a few books on PHP, MySQL and Server Security (especially about SERVER SECURITY!!). Then you'll enjoy the possibilities that PHP offers and will build great apps!

Charles Babcock MySQL stands for "My Structured Query Language". The program runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases. MySQL is officially (My S-Q-L), but often (My SEQuel).
The project has made its source code available under the terms of the GNU General Public License, as well as under a variety of proprietary agreements. MySQL is owned and sponsored by a single for-profit firm, the Swedish company MySQL AB, now a subsidiary of Sun MicrosystemsSun Microsystems Announces Completion of MySQL Acquisition; Paves Way for Secure, Open Source Platform to Power the Network Economy, Sun Microsystems Press release, February 26, 2008. Oracle Corporation began the process of acquiring Sun Microsystems.
MySQL is often used in free software projects that require a full-featured database management system, such as WordPress, phpBB and other software built on the LAMP software stack. It is also used in very high-scale World Wide Web products including Wikipedia, Google and Facebook.
