Off the western coast of southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea lies the Phuket.

It is approximately 890 kilometers from Bangkok. One of Thailand's largest islands at 550 km, Phuket is about the same size as Singapore. It is surrounded by a lot of smaller islands, and they and a further 70 km to its total area. The island is separated from the mainland by Chong Pak Phra channel with is a causeway that connects the island and a mainline.

Phuket is hilly and has a few peaks above 500 m. Its highest peak is Mai Tao Sipsong at 529m high all covered by lush jungle. In low lands there are rice

paddies and plantations of rubber, pineapple and coconuts and the only significant rain forest area remaining on the island. It is rain forest that is now protected called Khao Phra Thaeo Park. Some of the most beautiful beaches can be found on the West Coast separated by rocky coves and headlands.

Limestone shoals with only a few sandy beaches, comprise the East Coast. There are spectacular limestone islands that can be seen on the horizon, and the coral gardens are full of excited marine life. There are more waters surrounding the island, and sadly, much of Phuket's coral has been disappearing because of environmental issues and human neglect.

Divers and enthusiasts alike, head to Similan and Surin islands, which are several are hours away by boat. These islands offer some of the best diving in the world. Another killer destination is the stunning interior of the islands with views that are considered by many visitors as some of the most beautiful in the world. All of these areas add to Phuket's appeal internationally.

There are many reasons for Phuket's popularity, but one that stands out is the incredible number of golf courses that are scattered about the island. Golf enthusiasts come from all over the world to sample these excellent courses and are astonished and delighted by the luxury accommodations they find there at affordable prices. With excellent golf courses and top-quality amenities they have become the choice of many golfers for great holiday.

Coming to the island is easy, and staying there is easy as well. As there only two seasons in the year to contend with - one being rainy season that runs from May to October, and other is the hot season which runs from November to April. During the off-peak season, September and October are the worst months of the year.

Some of the best times to visit are from November to February. During these times the skies are blue, the sea breeze fresh, and you can swim in clear blue waters or lie on sun drenched beaches with an average temperature ranging from 23 to 33C.

Phuket villa rentals are now an established part of the world's premier properties, and vacationers have rented amazing villas located all over the island. It is possible to find something to suit anybody's tastes.

Phuket has the second highest per capita income of any Thailand's provinces outside Bangkok, and has dominated the world resorts becoming the mainstay of the island's main economy. Tourism has been providing wealth to the islands as they have provided luxury accommodations for the past two decades. Every year over 3 million people arrive to enjoy the natural splendor that Phuket offers.
