What Is TMJ?

TMJ or TMD is basically the disorder of the TemporoMandibular Joints or simply the jaws. TMJ is still a puzzling disorder because there are several factors that cause it and there is not one but several treatments for it including physical therapy for TMJ. It has no single identified cure to this day.

Tip: Click here for to learn about a website I found that offers help on physical therapy for TMJ.

What Are The Contributing Factors Of TMJ?

1. Grinding and clenching of the teeth. This particularly happens during sleep times and the person may feel exhaustion on the jaw area when he wakes up. The person may also experience swelling or tenderness on the jaw region.

2. Trauma. Trauma may be from accidents, falling or punches on the jaw that may have misaligned the teeth and or the jaw.

3. Strong emotions. Emotions may induce feelings of depression, anger and anxiety that in turn makes muscles tensed up and tighten.

4. Posture - posture refer to positions that may strain the TMJ like having one position for long periods in front of the computer.

5. Bad bite. This is simply the misaligned teeth or jaw.

What Are The Symptoms Of TMJ?

The number one symptom of TMJ which is most irritating is pain. The pain usually starts where the TMJ is located just in front of the ear. The pain is sharp and searing and sometimes dull and constant or lingering making it really annoying and a real discomfort. This pain affects all the muscles that is attached to the jaws and so pain is spread to elsewhere such as the side of the head, the temple, the teeth, the neck and even to the shoulders.

The other symptoms of TMJ are temporary locking of the jaws, migraine, dizziness and vomiting, temporary loss of hearing, ringing in the ears, snapping or popping of the jaws, swelling on affected areas and difficulty or inability to move the jaws.

Treatment or the cure for TMJ is symptomatic in approach such that if one complains of swelling or tenderness in the affected area anti-inflammatory medicines are prescribed and if its pain then pain killers are prescribed. Most of the cures only offer temporary relief. One of these treatments is physical therapy for TMJ. Physical therapy can help relax the muscles, increase joint, flexibility and more to alleviate pain. Again this only gives temporary relief and can be very expensive.

How To Find Relief From TMJ?

For a lasting relief from the pain and discomfort of TMJ, combine physical Therapy for TMJ with a set of specific exercises program available at http://tmj-no-more.com. These exercises are designed to give the needed exercise of the jaw and all other parts attached to it to enhance relaxation and strengthen weak muscles. So with this program there is a certain exercise for the tongue and jaw. The exercise when done gives relaxation and so there will be loosening of tensed muscles and so relieve you of pain. The strengthening of the muscles is meant to lessen the dysfunction of the joints to give a more lasting relief.

This exercise program like physical therapy for TMJ is fully safe and effective. It does not make use of medicines. It does not require you to go for dental implants or wear splints at night and going for a surgical procedure. So if you want a more lasting relief from the pain of TMJ, combine physical therapy for TMJ with the specific exercise program at http://tmj-no-more.com.
