    Dear Robin,
I agree with your points. I believe that the main reason of humans' burning desire to live forever is the great love for existence.
Life can give joy, satisfactions, the warm feeling of human relations. Since we all have aims in our existences, we could achieve them more completely.
Longer life would also extend the contribution of valuable people to civilization. I think to Einstein, Gandhi, Mother Theresa of Calcutta as well as to many others. In addition, more and more people would have been illuminated by the example of their lives.
In point out that in any case, immortality should remain an individual choice, to which everybody should have free access.

You may be interested to a lens of mine about Transhumanism and to a second one full of reflections about human existence and the implications of immortality on existential values and objectives:

I have been studying, practicing, and inviting others to Physical Immortality most of my life and the quote from the book 'The Door of Everything' is one of the eloquent and succinct explanations of the truth of Immortal life that I have ever seen. I have already ordered a copy.

One day our great great great grand children will ask us to tell the story again about when people used to die. That 's a wonderfull time to look forward to.
I am physically immortal now, enjoying life with about 100 immortals in Scottsdale AZ
Living forever is only possible when you have people to live it with, people who will not leave you ever. check out people unlimited at http://www.peopleunlimitedinc.com

Well David - the immortalists I know are are very much into expecting ALL people will become immortal - it's about togetherness you know, and not being separated by death. I think you are right in that people whose consciousness has evolved enough for them to be leading a fairly stress-free life (we create our own pampering, you know) are the ones who might consider physical immortality.

You must not like humans very much if you describe their flesh as "cancer" And there is a whole universe out there to fill up - plenty of room, I would say.

Renewal? I think death prevents it, as people use it unconsciously as an escape hatch. How about the renewal of finding connection in love with other people, and the renewal of trying out fresh perspectives?

@TURCOLIVE - hi there and thanks!

The dream of immortality is as old as civilisation, and probably as fleeting.

People who want be immortal are amongst the pampered fortunates of this world who have the leisure to even imagine such a thing, and so far as I can see, rarely stop to think about extending their dream to the other six billion people on this planet. But if the vision of the immortalists was that egalitarian, and no-one ever died again, Earth would soon be overrun by a cancer of human flesh.

So the dream of immortality is, like the wealth that begets it, both elitist and unsustainable. But its foolishness runs deeper than the merely social, because without death there is no renewal, and without renewal, there is no life.

Hi Marelisa - thankyou! I poured over your lenses to see how to do it, you know. I'm glad you like that quote - I do!

Hi Margo - great to hear from you, Margo. I love your lens about elderly people taking up new interests! On the immortality question you raised, the idea is that an immortal person doesn't have accidents, because by following their inner guidance, they will somehow avoid them.

Hi Dot - thanks Dot - it'd be great if you do a lens - or a few.

Hi Skyler - thanks for your lovely note! I would love to know who you are! And to hear more of your thoughts on this topic.

To me the first step and the only step in transforming the body at the cellular level into one that is immortaling momemt-by moment is a deep and intense focus to live forever. The depth of this committment is what Robert Coon might call "True Will." A first step might be to just imagine what the year 2100 will look like. Then making a vow to eternal life. There are thousands alive today who shall create a new paradise right here on planet earth!

Thanks for your insights and the hope you bring to so many!

Nice page! I'm going to take a look around and see some more of them.

That is a great quote. The problem, however is that is we could live in this body forever, we wouldn't do anything. There would still be the problem of accidents, for instance, If I could live forever, I wouldn't have gone to Europe because the plane might have crashed and if accidents were the only way I could die, then I would be less likely to do things where there could be an accident!

Good point, Margo. But human enhancement can go well beyond the body ... The important thing is reducing substantially the level of risk while increasing the overall quality of life. This can be an objective of advanced civilizations.

Hi Robin: Welcome to squidoo! You've done a great job with this lens. "You want to stay on Earth because it is the most beautiful spring morning of all your history, and you are in love." I love that quote.
