Massage courses - how to pick one.

Quite simply I have been a massage therapist for longer than I care to remember and have had numerous wannabee massage therapist coming to me asking questions about how they should decide between all the massage courses available. Well I thought I would share my thoughts for all out there interested and i hope it helps.

I hope this is going to be informative and fun at the same time. She's happy! :)

Which one of the many massage courses is for you?

Help is at hand if you cannot decide.

I have been a massage therapist for approximately 18 years now and have found it although hard work at time, a great provider of job satisfaction - there is nothing like the feeling of someone coming into your office and saying they feel great when you know they have suffered for a considerable amount of time. The one thing I have noticed though is that when most people want to get into a career, maybe their first or maybe needing a career change, it is easy to get paralysed by self doubt; how do you choose the right massage courses, what field of massage do you go into when you are not familiar with them all! Ahhhhh - questions questions questions.

Well, one way of looking at it is that different massage courses cater for different massage therapies and so it would make sense to first develop an idea of which area of massage therapy you want to get into. So to help you I have summarised what fields of work are opened up by the different massage training course.

Aromatherapy Massage Therapist Courses: You are taught how essential oils used during a massage to enhance the effects of a basic massage therapy. Adds to the value of a traditional relaxation/leisure massage. The massage therapist would be found everywhere from spas, health clubs, cruise ships, luxury hotels etc etc.

Leisure Massage courses: this is really the massage therapists' basic tool. The massage therapists are found all over the place like the aromatherapist. There is no shortage of areas you can work and you will never run out of people who want to dampen down their stress levels and loosen off some of those knots! This is an easy form of massage to practise at home or to use if wanting to do home visits.

Medical Massage Courses: typically this type of therapist works in hospitals and private clinics. Within a professional team the massage therapist help patients recover from their recent injury or illness. Medical massage therapists can also be found in Chiropractic clinics, sports injury clinics, would work alongside physiotherapists etc etc. A subdivision of this form of massage would be taking a specialized course on pre and post pregnancy massage for example.

Sports massage: The massage course focus on treatments more to specific areas of the body as are great before and after a sports persons workout or event and there is as you can imagine an overlap with the work of the medical massage therapist. Work tends to be found within injury clinics and sports teams and centers.

Holistic Massage therapy Courses: these are usually a bolt on course over and above a basic massage course for example, Thai Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu etc.

So how to go forward, well you can try and imagine within what setting you would like to work and then decide what type of massage you want to practise - at first anyhow. Now you need to look into what course criteria you need met by looking at picking massage courses

How to afford massage courses & what are the hidden overlooked costs.

Whenever we think of cost we think the amount of funds something will cost, yet furthermore we may possibly be talking about the price to our social living or perhaps amount of spare time we have. Within this article I am going to illustrate the monetary costs connected with massage therapist training i.e. exactly what tend to be the prices connected with the common massage courses out there.

Expenses connected with massage courses are both visible and less tangible (far more on the latter in a moment). The fee for the massage course alone is an obvious cost. It varies between massage colleges as you might assume and some massage therapy schools could charge far more than others based mostly on their own good reputation and how swamped they tend to be with application submissions. Massage courses could vary from $1 - $8,000+.

Regularly forgotten costs whenever initially preparing for massage therapist training are items such as buying books, a uniform, maybe you need to buy your own bench, just what about all your living and travel bills etc. Yet exactly what if the expenses are too high? exactly what then?

Exactly what you will need when finances are limited are financial deals. These could be in the form of aid deals obtainable via the government in the USA & it can be not uncommon for the individual massage colleges to host their own also. There is needless to say the banks & other financial institutions that may aid. If you are a veteran needing to start a brand new career then you must look for specialized assistance programs specifically developed for you. If you never wish to enter into debt then there are alternative ways.

One method is to select cheaper shorter massage courses which will at minimum get you qualified and working as a therapeutic massage therapist so that you're earning money. This will help you then to shell out for additional massage therapist training that will in the end get you to your wanted end point. Scholarships are also worth looking for; given by a whole host of diverse enterprises from the massage therapy schools themselves to market magazines and certain foundations. There's on the other hand a totally alternative way of making your massage therapy courses cheaper.

Do not forget online massage courses. They are cheaper since their fees are less, you do not have to reside away or even journey to and from the massage college etc. You can find pros and cons to online massage courses but if cash is not bountiful, it truly is well worth looking at.

So lastly, if you at first find yourself saying you cannot afford to train via one of the numerous massage courses then do not give up to easily. Merely keep an open mind and think creatively, you have a impressive chance, with just a little effort, of finding there's a way.
