hi i have a jbj picotope like the one you have i have had it running for over a year now but it was a the petstore that i worked at for almost 7 months and when i got layed off i had to leave it there because of the lack of room at home and it was nowhere near properly taken care of in my absence so i forced myself to bring it home and pretty much started over with it though the corals and some of the live stock survived the water quality was horrible and the tank it self was very dirty so i cleaned it up and got it back to good health which took a good month or two but in my experiance if your not going to keep fish in your picotope and you are good about doing weekly waterchanges and topoffs than there is no reason to have a filter on your pico. i only run a 35 gph micropump for circulation and everything in it is thriveing and admitidly i have even kept two catalina gobys with just the pump and did fine until the layoff after which they cought ich and died because i was not able to be there and maintain the tank on a daily basis.
