Welcome to the Picture House
Hi there. This is a place to find links to full length movies that you can watch online for free. It's not just every movie I could find on every video site, though. These are quality films that I strongly recommend.
I'll aim to add at least a couple of films every week, so check back regularly.
(Note - sometimes videos get taken off the web without warning - if you find any broken links on this page, feel free to let me know.)
And, while being able to watch movies for free is great, sometimes you just want to own the complete package, so where possible I've included links to buy the movies (or other related DVDs) from Amazon.
So, settle down with a box of popcorn and enjoy the show.
Double Bill - stoner comedy
- Harold and Kumar go to White Castle
- In Britain this was released as "Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies". (White Castle is an American burger chain, which most people in Britain have never heard of). The two titles between them should give you a fair idea what this is about - two friends get stoned, see a TV commercial for White Castle burgers and become obsessed with getting just the right burger. This is from part of the team that made "Dude, where's my car?" and similarly daft adventures ensue. By making the two heroes Asian American, they can also throw in some unsubtle, but still hilarious, parodies of American racism. The sequel (due out this year) is titled "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay".
- Born in East LA
- Starring Cheech Marin (of Cheech and Chong fame) as a US citizen with Mexican ancestors who, finding himself on the wrong side of the border without his passport, has to use all his ingenuity to get back home to his momma.

Double Bill - They Live / Bad Taste
- Bad Taste
- Directed by Peter Jackson (who went on to make the Lord of the Rings trilogy), this is a very low budget sci-fi schlock comedy. As the title suggests, many scenes are quite tasteless. The story concerns a small band of alien hunters who stumble upon a nest of invaders and have to use all their resourcefulness to get rid of them.
- They Live
- The more serious of the two films here, but still kind of silly. A drifter accidentally discovers a pair of glasses that allow him to see the subliminal messages with which we are being programmed, and also the disguised aliens who are trying to control us. Like many of John Carpenter's movies, this is a combination of sci-fi, action, social commentary and the odd dose of slapstick.
Double Bill - Douglas Adams on TV
- Hyperland
- First shown on BBC television in 1990, this is a speculative look at how the dissemination of information through computers and TV might evolve. There's a fictional framework, in which Adams is guided around the web of data by a "software agent" (Doctor Who actor Tom Baker). In to this framework are slotted interviews with various people who were then at the cutting edge of digital information transmission. A lot of what they show seems dated or daft now. But it's interesting to see how someone in 1990 imagined the Internet of today. And the dialogue between Adams and Baker is fantastic.
- South Bank Show - Douglas Adams
- Interviews with Adams about his life and work are interspersed with strange sketches featuring characters from his stories (David Dixon and Simon Jones revive their roles as Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent from the TV version of Hitchhikers). A must-watch for fans.
