The Islands of The Bahamas
In The Bahamas, there are 29 islands, 661 cays, and 2,387 islets. The majority of the smaller cays and islets are either uninhabited, or are used only seasonally. A few are privately owned.Most of the photos of The Bahamas on this page show scenes from New Providence, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Little Stirrup Cay (also known as CocoCay) and Exuma.
Tourism is the mainstay of the Bahamian economy, and the cruise industry, along with vacations in the Bahamas, are major contributor. Nassau, on New Providence, and Freeport, on Grand Bahama have piers built to accomodate large cruise ships, and most all of the major lines sailing from east coast U.S, ports call there regularly.

A Day on a Private Island in The Bahamas
Cruise Destinations
There are several private cruise destinations in the Bahamas owned by or on long term lease to various cruise lines. These include:
Royal Caribbean's CocoCay
Norwegian Cruise Line's Great Stirrup Cay
Princess Cruises' Princess Cays (on Eleuthera)
Holland America Line's Half Moon Cay
Disney Cruise Line's Castaway Cay
These private destinations are reserved exclusively for passengers of cruise lines, and most are accessible only by boat. Cruise passengers enjoy a day on their own beach in The Bahamas. There's, swimnming, sunbathing, snorkeling a barbeque lunch, and the availability (usually for a price) of various water craft, parasailing, and boat tours.
