Piercing
Piercings and why
The practice of piercing the body by choice is often utilized to express individuality. Going back centuries and leading all the way up to the present (at least in certain areas of the world), piercing the body can undertake different meanings, but most all stand for something positive. For tribal folk, body piercing might symbolize something along the lines of extreme bravery, much like a medal or award. The piercing practice might also be used to indicate dominance. Elders of the tribe may have accumulated multitudes of piercings over the years to express a lifetime of bravery and achievement.
In more modernized areas, body piercings might reflect an artistic expression over symbols of courage. Much like tattoos can hold deep, sentimental meanings for those who are covered in the ink, body piercings can be utilized to express love for someone, remembrance for a certain cause, or just symbolize a cry out to the world in order to be noticed.
The most common piercings in this day and age, however, are done to augment the looks of a person, particularly a female. Ear piercings filled with diamond-encrusted earrings or studs add a simple touch of beauty and elegance to a person's looks. Others, such as a navel piercing, can play up someone's sex appeal. Most of these common piercings are used to increase perceived attractiveness.
These piercings are achieved by a simple process. After a proper spot on the body is found, the area is numbed, a sharp needle is quickly jabbed through, pressure is applied until any blood is clotted, and temporary jewelry is provided to keep the piercing stretched to its proper circumference. Body piercing is popular with both sexes, but modern piercings have become an almost exclusively female trend.

Body Piercing - The importance of a excellent piercing studio
Body piercing
Body piercing has become an incredibly popular trend over recent years and as with any other trend, there are many questions surrounding it. Many people assume that body piercing simply involves getting an area of your body pierced with a needle, an earring is placed through the hole the needle has made and that is all there really is to it. The truth is that much more goes into body piercing than just those few basic steps and it's important to do your research before getting anything pierced in your body so that you can know the risks and how to avoid them. There are a few risks associated with body piercings of any kind and these most often include infection, allergic reaction, bleeding, nerve or tooth damage, and more serious infections and diseases such as HIV and tetanus. If you get your piercing done in a professional setting where the equipment is sterilized and the piercer washes their hands thoroughly and wears rubber gloves, your chance of infection is significantly lowered however, a small chance of complication still exists. To ensure that you keep the area of your piercing healthy, be sure to make sure that all of the equipment is sterilized and never get a piercing at a studio that uses a gun. This is because piercing guns cannot be sterilized and so your chance of infection is much greater. Also be sure that the metal that you are using for your piercing will not cause an allergic reaction. The skin is a sensitive area when foreign objects are placed in it and an improper metal could cause a serious reaction.
You should also be well aware of how long the site of the piercing will take to heal. While the earlobe, which is still the most common place to get a piercing, will heal within six to eight weeks, other areas of the body can take much longer. The navel can take anywhere from four months to one full year to heal while the tongue generally only takes four weeks to heal. Knowing how long certain piercings will take to heal can greatly impact your decision of where to get a piercing and so it's important to know this beforehand.
Where you get your piercing done should also play a big part when you decide to get a body piercing. While some studios and salons insist that all of their piercers be licensed, others do not. You should only go somewhere that you know all of the piercers are fully licensed and you can see the licenses displayed on the wall. The thought of being pierced by someone, even if it just a common earlobe piercing, can be quite scary and will increase your risk of complications even further. The license on the wall should also state that the piercer belongs to the Association of Professional Piercers, which will further their legitimacy for you. There are often age limits placed on those who can get body piercings and these vary from place to place. However, anyone can generally get a piercing even if they are underage, when one of their parents are present and can sign a consent form. Also look to make sure the salon is clean and has good lighting so that the piercer can fully see what they are doing. Needles should be taken out of sterile packages and you should see them open the brand new packages.
Once your body piercing is in, it's extremely important that you keep the site of the piercing clean. To properly clean it, wash your hands thoroughly and remove any scaly or rough patches that you find around the earring. Using an antibacterial liquid soap, gently wash around the site of the earring. Just as gently, rinse off all the soap and any discharge that was around the earring. When you dry the earring, make sure that you use a paper towel or white napkin as bacteria is commonly found in cloth towels and the dyes from napkins can further irritate your skin. Be sure to follow these steps for at least five days, or until the site of the earring appears to be healing.

Body Art
Body art include tattoos, piercings and stretchings
Any sort of artificial or unnatural mark or decoration on the body can be qualified as body art. Many types of body art go back centuries, with examples ranging from art that would look fine in present-day society to exotic, complex body "murals" that provoke many thoughts and emotions from lookers-on. Whether these pieces are ornamental piercings or colorful tattoos, they all fall under the wide umbrella of the descriptor 'body art.'As mentioned above, a piercing can be a form of body art. Whether it is as simple as a young girl getting her ear pierced, these piercings serve to add beauty and augment the looks of a person. Others may choose to place multiple piercings on their ears, attracting more attention to themselves. Still others may want nose, lip, or belly button piercings. There are even more places that can be pierced on the body, but when one chooses to get multiple piercings, there is a good chance that they identify themselves with the edgy, creative crowd.
An offshoot of piercing is the stretching of a piercing, most commonly in the ear. These stretchings can range from the circumference of a dime to the size of a Frisbee! If these particular piercings interest you, be sure to note that once your ear is stretched to a desired size, there is no going back. A small piercing is easier to hide, but a stretching is much more permanent.
In addition to piercings, another form of body art is tattoos. In fact, when one is asked what first springs to mind when the term 'body art' is used, tattoos are probably the typical answer. Tattoos can range wildly in style and meaning. For example, someone may want to show their love by getting a discreet tattoo of someone's name placed on a private part of the body. Others may want to maximize sex appeal by receiving a provocative tattoo. Still others may choose to drape themselves in ink, showcasing memories and ideals all over there body.

Surface piercings
When discussing piercings, the surface is a reference to many areas on the body that can be pierced. Non-surface areas are those that deal with the ear and nose, therefore most piercings on the body can be classified as surface piercings. A list of some of the surface piercings and what they entail are:Nape Piercing-this is the back portion of the neck, just below where the hairline would cut off on a person with a short haircut.
Neck Piercing-this is the side, either to the left or the right of the nape, of the neck. Given the location and the typical 'two-pierce piercing,' neck piercings are often referred to as vampire bites.
Stomach Piercing-any piercing on the stomach, most often including those close to the belly button, can be classified as a surface piercing.
Web Piercing-the webby areas between the toes and fingers can be pierced if so desired.
Wrist, Finger, Knuckle Piercings-these thin layers of skin surrounding bone(s) can be pierced with a surface piercing.
Sternum Piercing-the skin over the breastplate can also be pierced, surprisingly.
Surface piercings can often pose problems; however, because unlike non-surface piercings, which are generally in immobile areas of the body, surface piercings are placed on parts of the body that are constantly in motion. You can imagine the potential problems of piercings on the stomach, neck, chest, or around the hands when you consider how much they are used. If the piercings are not done properly, rejection of the jewelry and even infection can be one of the undesired consequences. Be sure to seek a reputable professional when choosing to get a surface piercing placed on your body.
Body modification
Different Plugs used for body modification
Anyone who receives an ear piercing decorates it by placing a loop, stud or earring in it. Likewise, those who receive a stretching would like to make their ear ornamental as well. For these people, there are different plugs used for body modification; they can be stoppers that are placed in the middle of stretchings that serve as earrings for this particular type of body modification. For those who may not know, a stretching is a unique, but very simple concept. Imagine piercing an ear lobe, a straightforward, common process. Now, envision penetrating the initial piercing with needles that ever-increase in size. This repeated penetration allows the ear piercing to stretch to an abnormal circumference. Many people choose to walk around with an empty stretching, letting the stretching itself serve as "shock value" to the people who pass by.
Still, although a stretching is bizarre enough by itself, some people still wish to express themselves further. Perhaps they like the idea of an earlobe piercing, but cannot wear the standard jewelry? Any way you look at it, however, and for whatever reasons they have, the only viable option is a stretching plug.
The different plugs used for body modification do just what their name leads you to believe that they do. They are wedged in the stretching, getting stuck to 'plug' the hole. While they are usually used for ornamental purposes, sometimes they can be used as an optical illusion of sorts. Some may view the plugs as large ear rings, not noticing that the skin of the ear is actually stretched around the plug.
To this end, a plug has a versatile use. In some respects, it can be seen as a type of decoration for those who wish to showcase their stretching. For others, it can be a way to deflect attention from the fact that they have stretchings, either out of shame or regret.

What is the Spiritual Connection between Body Piercing and Chakra?
Body Piercing and Chakra
When one is considering partaking in any form of body piercing, it's important to understand what effect the piercing will have on the chakras. Chakra can be considered as energy centers within the body. It's the condition of these chakras that will affect how we feel physically although chakras are not physical. Simply put, when a person is feeling a negative emotion such as depression, stress, or anger, this is going to affect the chakras negatively and therefore, because our physical body is undergoing negativity, so will our chakras. One of the chakras plays an especially important role when it comes to body piercing and it's because one of these energy centers is located near the spine and right behind the navel. By interfering with the navel by placing a piercing in it, we are interfering with the chakra and our physical body may be weakened by it.The navel chakra is one of the most important in the bodies because it is this energy center which will dictate negative emotions such as shame, fear, jealousy, or rage, to name just a few. The navel gathers the influences in our outside environment and transforms them into some sort of energy. Whether the energy that is transmitted is positive or negative, will depend greatly on the external factors and the condition that the navel is in is one of the greatest influences on the chakra. This is because in order for the chakra to work in a beneficial way, the body and the mind must be free of all toxins. Any body piercing that is placed within the navel is considered a toxin and therefore, will interfere with the chakra.
The condition of the navel is also important when considering this particular energy center. In order for the chakra to perform optimally and allow both mind and body to be at peace, the navel must be in perfect condition. One can tell if their navel is in this perfect condition simply by looking at it. What is considered a 'perfect' navel is shaped like a funnel and while the outside of the navel will be round and firm, it should not be tense and should not feel extremely hard. The hairline running down the length of the chest should also end right at the navel and should be a perfectly straight line. When a piercing is placed within the navel, this can greatly affect the shape as the piercing may pull the navel to one side, cause the outer part of the navel to tighten, or in the worst of cases, become infected.
But although the chakras within the body are not physical, there are obvious physical symptoms that will show that there is a problem with the navel chakra. If the piercing pulls to the right or the left of the navel, this will result in kidney problems. If the piercing pulls up or down, this will have a negative impact on the small and large intestines. However, if one starts to experience any of these symptoms, it can be heartening to know that the damage can be undone. By focusing on the nadis, which is the path that the chakra will take when entering or exiting the body, any effects of negative energy can be overcome. By focusing on repairing the chakra, one will start to feel less anxious and scared about things that they may have before. It's also thought that feelings of hunger and thirst can also be controlled and that one will have a deeper understanding of their mind and body.
Although naval piercings are the body piercings that receive the most attention when speaking about chakras and the body's energy centers, there are seven throughout the entire body. In order to ensure that one stays healthy in both mind and spirit, it's important to understand what effect piercings will have on each individual chakra before deciding to get one.
The Spiritual Side of Piercing for the Wicca Religion
The Spiritual Side of Piercing for the Wicca Religion
You don't have to know a lot about the Wicca religion to know that jewelry plays a large part of it. Because of this, people belonging to the Wicca religion will often be seen wearing body piercings in multiple areas of their body as well as wearing many bracelets, necklaces, and other forms of jewelry. The Wicca religion is also highly spiritual, with most of the religion centering around that fact. Unlike religion, where one particular god or person is worshipped, the Wicca religion focuses more on the individual and their spirit. This is not to say that there are no gods and goddesses in Wicca, they are simply looked upon differently than other religions look at their gods. When speaking of Wicca and body piercings, it is not so much where the jewelry is placed, although that does play its own part, but also what colors are used in the jewelry and what type of precious gems are also used. Each has a different spiritual connection. In the Wicca religion the colors yellow and orange are especially important for brining about positive energy. These colors are also largely used so that a person may fully absorb the lessons they have learned, which are generally very spiritual in nature. The precious stones that are most often associated with this same the same are topaz, calcite, and apatite. A Wicca that is looking to fully experience these lessons, or that feels as though they need more positive energy may decide to have a body piercing in the abdominal area. Because navel rings are often thought to damage the energy flow, a Wicca will sometimes choose to have the piercing just above or below the navel in either of these colors in combination with any of these precious gems.
In order to achieve a connection with the deity, a connection with the universe, and a connection with the infinite, a Wicca will often choose to have many piercings in their ears. Although not one of the most unusual places to have a piercing, Wiccas will choose to have piercings here because it's thought that the top of the head is the energy center for achieving these connections. The colors used are usually only gold or white and although diamonds or gold are usually the precious stones that are used in the ears, heliodor, clear quartz, and selenite are also often used. The ears are the perfect place for these types of spiritual piercings as they are not directly on the energy center, which is at the crown of the head, but they are close enough that they can still reach the center.
Both male and female Wiccas sometimes turn to these colors and precious stones to help them with fertility matters. Red and orange are the colors that are most closely associated with reproduction in the Wicca religion as are the precious stones amber, ruby, and carnelian. To bring about these energy centers, Wiccas will sometimes have their genital area pierced. Again they will not place the stones directly over the energy center, but they will often pierce just above the pubic area or just beside it. These types of piercings are also closely connected with bringing balance to the masculine and feminine energies.
Many people mistake Wiccas with people who are strictly Goths and these piercings can certainly add to that assumption. However, few Wiccas are actual Goths and although the piercings may coincide with many Goth practices, they are done for entirely different purposes and with entirely different beliefs in mind.
Septum Rings - Spiritual Meaning
Septum Rings are very Trendy but There is Often a Deeper, Spiritual Meaning
Piercing the septum, which is the area of cartilage in the nose that separates the nostrils, is becoming a more common practice in today's world for many different reasons. Although some do it as a fashion statement, the ritual actually began in India, where Hindu and Muslim women have been piercing their septum for centuries. It's interesting to note that while we often associate the practices and rituals of the Middle East with deep spiritual meanings, Indian women usually pierce their septum for physical reasons. This is because in that part of the world it's thought that piercing the septum will increase fertility and will help with childbirth. They of course, appreciate the beauty of it as well. However, piercing the septum in the Western world means something else entirely and while some do it purely as a fashion statement, many people practice septum piercing as a way to connect with themselves and their inner spirituality.Spiritual septum piercings are usually done by a professional piercer however, they are never done in a studio or salon of any sort. This is because a septum piercing that is being done for spiritual purposes shouldn't be done in the same manner as those that are doing it on the spur of the moment, or for other reasons, such as simply wanting to be trendy. The location of these piercings is not specific as long as it's a quiet area where one can reflect before, during, and after the piercing session. There's no need for candles, music, or any other New Age materials; simply two people and a willingness to open up and feel the spirituality.
The piercing is usually done to give the person being pierced a feeling of personal, spiritual strength. The pain the piercing will cause is enough to symbolize this. Another reason why the piercing is done is so that the person may begin to understand the concept of truly letting go and realizing that they are not actually in control and that they need to sometimes just let everything go. This stems from the train of thought of "being led around by the nose." Those who partake in the practice for spiritual reasons often realize that there are some things that they cannot control and the symbolism of the ring is much like telling the universe that they are prepared and that they surrender to wherever life takes them.
Septum piercings are also a way to center one's self. The body will often give us signs to let us know what it needs and spiritual septum meanings is a way of focusing on the body and letting it guide the person about to embark on the spiritual adventure. The fact that this is such a huge part of the piercing takes place before the ring is even put into the septum. The person about to have the piercing done will often feel just inside their nostril, along the side of the septum and try to block everything else out. While they are ignoring all distractions, they will be feeling for the place where their body is telling them the septum 'belongs.' The ring will then be placed in that area after the professional piercer deems that a safe spot.
Many people who partake in septum piercing as a way of reconnecting to their spiritual selves will often have many other piercings that have symbolic meanings. It's important that if spiritual septum piercing is something that interests you, you ensure that it is done properly. This is a chance to get back to your mind, body, and spirit and while it is supposed to enhance all aspects, having a septum ring improperly inserted can cause infection and lead to disaster. The point is to make the body better through spirit, not to damage it.
Types of piercing
Types of piercing

There are many types of piercing options that you can choose from if you decide to get a piercing
but want something different than the typical ear piercing. Anymore, even ear piercing has become common place for men leading people to search out new piercing opportunities in their bodies, which means you now have many types of piercings to choose from. Some people even choose to make their piercings more special by adding spacers to them after the original hole is pierced.
A spacer is inserted into all types of piercing that has healed and is meant to help expand the whole so that it grows into a large visibly prominent hole. Oftentimes people allow their spacers to be expanded to sizes of at least 5-6 centimeters which results in their spacer looking somewhat like a donut placed in the ear. The amazing part is the hole in the middle has no ear tissue, but is simply an enlarged piercing from the hole. Many people are now choosing these types of piercing to make their individual statements more clear.
Other popular types of piercing include the eyebrow range on the face. This area of piercing is one that has become more popular in the mid nineties as generally the shift focused from the ear to the eyes or men, and woman followed suit. People with these types of piercings usually like the appeal of the piercing being located on their face, but enjoy the act that their visibility can be controlled by the size of the jewelry that is placed in the piercing hole.
There are of course many more types of piercing that people get now, some more popular and socially accepted then others. A general list of the types of piercing options you have include nose, ear, eyebrow, lip, tongue, belly, and genitalia.

Labret Piercing
Love Labret Piercing
I saw a celebrity on a TV channel was saying "I love labret piercing for the uniqueness it adds to my face. True it really does. Labret piercing is a type of piercing that is done below the lower lip yet above the chin. It is a simple, straightforward procedure that can be done quickly and is becoming more and more common with people who are into piercing. While it is not technically a lower lip piercing, sometimes a labret piercing can reach up to touch the lower lip.The process of labret piercing is not unlike many of the other piercings that take place on the human body. First, you can identify which area exactly on the labret you would like to be pierced. It is recommended that you see a professional as they can let you know whether or not the area you selected is good or bad-if it is bad, there is a higher chance of the body rejecting the piercing and an increased risk of infection.
If a professional helps you identify the specific area that is best for your piercing, you will then numb this part of your labret. After the numbing process is completed, you will make two piercings in the skin, much like the nape or neck piercings but not as far spaced out. This process will be followed with cleaning up any mess that may have resulted from the skin penetration.
Once everything has been taken care of, you may put your jewelry in the area of piercing. Generally, a loop ring is used for labret piercings. These are just like those found on eyebrow or lower lip piercings. If you love labret piercing go ahead because it is becoming so popular and it gives the person a unique look, better it is more new and fresh than the now-standard nose and lip piercings, but is not so exotic that it would turn people off so if you love labret piercing idea don't turn the idea off get your labret pierced and studded.
Tongue Piercing
Tongue piercing
A tongue piercing is very much a straightforward procedure that is meant to add sex appeal to the person seeking the body art modification. It is done predominantly in females and is often done to convey surprise and excitement to a lover. Other reasons for tongue piercing exist, but no matter which reason it is done for, the process remains the same. The first step involved in a tongue piercing is considering whether or not you truly want to go through with it. Given the thickness of the tongue, it can be a somewhat painful procedure, so receiving a piercing for it on a whim might be a mistake in hindsight. However, if you have done the necessary soul searching and you still wish to pierce it, here is the procedure and some things to consider.
Like many piercings, the tongue is pierced and a piece of jewelry is placed in the piercing. The common process for a tongue piercing is to first numb the tongue as best as possible. This in itself can be painful, as ice is often used in the numbing process-anyone who has ever placed an ice cube under their tongue can attest to its painfulness. If you can make it through the numbing process, the person who performs the piercing will quickly move to the next stop.
The next part of the process is the actual piercing. Specially modified tools can be used, but they all amount to the same thing: a thin needle must penetrate your tongue and come out through the bottom. Quickly, the desired jewelry is placed in and the bleeding is neutralized. Pain will exist for a few days, but once everything is healed, you will have a provocative little surprise in your mouth.
Eyebrow Piercing
Eyebrow Piercing
While there are many people who would never dream of receiving a piercing, or anything more than the standard ear piercing, a great deal of others wish to express themselves through as many piercings as possible. These people may not be satisfied with the usual piercings and wish to "add to their collection" with something else entirely. For those folks, there is an answer: eyebrow piercing.Yes, considering eyebrow piercing has been witnessing popularity like never before due to its stylish nature and simplicity in getting done. It also doesn't hurt that as far as piercings go, it promises minimal pain. Also, it is unique in that it is unusual, but tasteful, as most eye piercing jewelry is roughly the same size as an ear stud.
As far as the piercing itself, the process doesn't differ too much from other simple piercings, such as ear, lip, or nose piercings. As usual, the desired area is first numbed. This area of skin is thin, so the process of numbing takes very little time. The next course of action is to quickly take care of the job. A thin needle is jabbed through the numbed skin, creating a small piercing. Either a temporary piece of jewelry or one selected by the person receiving the piercing is placed in the penetrated skin.
Like most minor piercings, there is hardly any blood at all to worry about. Also, given its minor nature, it is easy to cover up the fact that you have the piercing at all if your jewelry is not placed in its slot. This prevents the regret that might be experienced from a more exotic form of body art. In fact, in the final analysis, considering eyebrow piercing could be the most nondescript form of body art that is available for expressing one's persona.
Brooch Piercing
Receiving a Brooch Piercing
First, the negatives of brooch piercings: yes, it is considered a surface piercing. This makes sense, as its location (just above the nipple on the breast) places it in an area that is conducive to movement and clothing snags. This means that cuts, skin tears, body rejection, and infection are all real possibilities. But, common sense also tells us that this is one of the safer types of surface piercings. Still, caution must be used to avoid any of the maladies that come with the negative consequences of surface piercings.
Having said so much off brooch piercing, it's one of the favorite piercings received these days. While it can be a good place for the shy starters, it can also be a place for macho personas who would want to win heart of their ladylove by brooch piercing (the simple reason its around the heart region). Before receiving a brooch piercing, first make sure that you are being pierced by someone you really trust. You will be asked to reveal a private part of your body and you should not just let anyone see you in such a vulnerable state. When you have selected the ideal person, they will perform a simple process.
First and foremost for receiving a brooch piercing, they will numb the area of skin and then pierce two spots, like they would on any other surface piercing. Any blood or other mess will be cleaned up and the long piece of jewelry that seems standard to surface piercings will be placed in the appropriate area. The finished product will allow you to have a sensual little secret for a certain loved one and will allow you to feel good about yourself by making yourself feel prettier than before.
Webbing Piercing
Why a Webbing Piercing
Generally, while it is viable to perform the piercings in between the toes of the foot, the area (and therefore the foot) must be big enough, limiting the number of people who are able to receive the procedure. Couple that with the fact that it is already a rare piercing request to have and little to no foot piercings are commonly seen. Therefore, the most common type of webbing piercing by far is performed on the webbing of the hand.
There are four possible areas on each hand that can be used: pinky-to-ring finger, ring finger-to-middle finger, middle finger-to-index finger, or index-finger-to-thumb. The piercing, when done correctly, should pierce through both sides of the webbing via a needle. A small loop ring should be placed inside the piercing, much like the loop rings that are often seen in ear piercings.
The area should be numbed before piercing is executed. Once numbing is achieved, a standard piercing needle is sufficient for performing the procedure. You need to find a proper professional to perform the task as perfect execution is paramount to a lasting piercing. If even a minor mistake is made, rejection or infection can result. This is due in part to the fact that piercings on areas of the body that are most often in motion have a high failure rate.

Spiritual Body Piercing
Spiritual Body Piercing Through the Ages
Body piercingis almost as old as the world itself as ancient civilizations would partake in piercing their bodies for different spiritual reasons, including communicating with the gods, showing that they belonged to a particular tribe with particular spiritual beliefs, or simply as a form of praising the gods. Over time, piercings often became a mark of higher social standing and the more piercings a persons had, the more valued they were in society. Many religious and spiritual groups today are still involved in body piercing as a form of showing their faith or sense of belonging to one specific group. Wiccas for instance, use piercings to display different jewels and gems on their body. Each gem represents something different and while this has little to do with religion, like everything else pertaining to Wiccas, it is thought to be a very spiritual practice. And although today many people get body piercings to be fashionable, the meaning of piercings in the past had very little to do with vanity.
Ancient African tribes have passed down the tradition of various piercings to show that they are part of various tribes and this jewelry not only distinguishes one tribe for another but also plays a large part of African tribal dances and rituals. Some piercings are thought to offer them protection in battle, whether by practical purposes or simply as a way of their gods being able to easily spot them while in the battlefield and offer them protection. Some African tribes, both in past history and today, have also worn different body piercings to show that they have a closer relationship with certain gods, such as the god of the sun. These body piercings, as well as the closer relationship they have with the gods, both place them in a higher social standing.
In the ancient Aztec culture, ear piercing was a very common practice. It was thought that by piercing the ears, sometimes just the lobe or just the cartilage but often both, it would discourage evil spirits from entering the body through the ear. The more piercings that one had in and around the ear, the more protected the person was from these evil spirits as these spirits were repelled by any type of metal and so would be discouraged from entering the person's body. These body piercings were also sometimes done in the Aztec culture as a way of offering blood to the gods and was considered one of the highest forms of worship.
There's no doubt that body piercing today is not anything new and that it has been passed down from different cultures over a period of thousands of years. Although modern day body piercing, especially in the Western hemisphere, has very little to do with spirituality, some people still choose to show their faith this way and there are cultures throughout the entire world that still practice body piercing as a form of spiritual worship.

- Wow. What a great site. You have tons of information here. It's freakin awesome. Very informative about the spiritual side of things. I appreciate the time you took to make this lens. 5* all the way as well as lens rolled and added as a favorite. Please visit my lens Industrial Piercing Jewelry and do the same for me. I appreciate it, and look forward to talking with you in the future.

- Beautiful lens about a beautiful thing. I find that the whole body mod thing gets addictive...one just ain't enough. It kinda' gets "under your skin" ;) 5*

- Great Lens. For me body art has the same appeal with some works of art, unlike other people look at it as destroying your body.
5 stars for your well researched Lens.
