- This is a great convention that offers training with the top instructors in pilates, gyrotonic and yoga.

- This is also one of the top training organizations. Power pilates is mentioned here because their website features class downloads.

- Everything pertaining to pilates is contained in this visually stunning publication.

- This is an often updated diary and personal study guide of sorts about the pilates world and one instructor's experience learning and living.
How to Become a Pilates Instructor
Pilates is a rapidly growing movement form. In the last ten years, many training organizations have been created. Most of these are created either by the Pilates elders (those who studied directly under Joseph Pilates) or second generation teachers (those who studied under those elders). Each is a little bit different in its focus and you should investigate which one suits you before investing the huge time and money it will take to become an instructor.
You can expect to spend anywhere from 200 dollars for the very most minimal training to around 15,000. Most of the more-respected programs are going to cost you around $10,000 to achieve a comprehensive certification.

Some Pilates Training Schools
- Polestar Pilates
- This training organization is based in physical therapy principles combined with Pilates. The system is adapted to be safer for the general population and the rehab patient. Polestar trainings usually use Balanced Body equipment.
- Stott Pilates
- This is a Canadian training organization founded by Moira Stott Merrithew. It is evolved pilates. Stott also manufactures it's own equipment.
- Peak Pilates
- Peak Pilates started out as an equipment manufacturer in Boulder, CO, but has recently started it's own training programs, which are very classically based.
- Physicalmind Institute
- This is one of the older Pilates certifation organizations.
- Power Pilates
- Power Pilates was already mentioned. They have a bridge program to accomodate those already certified through other organizations.

There are many companies that make Pilates equipment today. The main Pilates apparatus pieces are as follows: the universal reformer, the wunda chair, the cadillac, the ladder barrel, the spine corrector, the ped-a-pull and the magic circle. There are more pieces, but these are probably the most popular.

- Balanced Body sells a wide variety of Pilates equipment as well as educational materials (dvds, etc). They have created the Allegro reformer, the cactus tree for the wunda chair as well as the split pedal for the chair and also the Infinity footbar for the reformer.
- Stott Pilates
- Stott is a Canadian company which manufactures all major pilates equipment.
- Peak Pilates
- Peak is a company based in Boulder, CO. They have developed a interchangeable spine corrector and a total system workout machine which is rollable and foldable.
- Gratz Pilates
- This is the old-school pilates equipment that many of the New York Style people use.
- Stamina Pilates
- This company is an up-and-coming home manufacturer. It's equipment is a good quality for a small studio or for an individual who would like to do pilates in their own home.
Pilates Conventions and Trainings
One of the greatest things to do to further your pilates training is to go to a conference in which pilates is either featured or is one of the things featured. Be prepared to become overwhelmed. Pilates and Fitness Conventions
- Body Mind Expo
- This is a huge conference featuring pilates, yoga and gyrotonics. Instructors from all schools and disciplines come from all over the world. The only drawback- it's in Santa Clara, CA in the middle of nowhere. So, rent a car if you want to dine anywhere except the convention center.
- Pilates Method Alliance
- Mentioned before, this organization has conventions all over. Once, it was in New Orleans (thank you thank you). Now, it seems to have settled for the time being, in Palm Springs, CA.
- Sara's City Workout
- This is a great series of conventions held all over the United States. Sara's City features all kinds of fitness programs, including specialty certificates in pilates and other mind/body exercises.
- Inner Idea Convention
- This conference is sponsered by IDEA, the leading fitness education organization. World Idea is held once a year and this year they have a specialty program called Inner Idea, featuring mindbody programs.
