I have always loved the little boogers. I am now 38 years old and still play with them on occasion. I always watch where I walk in the mornings when I leave my home so not to step on them. There are usually 3-4 hundred of them running, sitting, and eating around my front porch every morning. In fact, it is 7:06 am right now. I am about to go check on them as soon as I finish this blurb. :)

I'm a kid, and my friends, siblings, and I put wood, dead grass-type things, dirt, ect. They're all so cool! We can tell them apart and gave them names!

When I was a child we called them "cheesey bugs"! Blessed by an Angel

    Hi,
There are so many this year, in my plants...wouldn't they hurt or kill the plants?

Ha! What a fun lens! I remember having so much fun as a kid playing with the pill bugs! I also used to enjoy watching those fast little silver fish bugs and trying to catch them. I haven't thought of those things in a long time. Thanks for a great lens and bringing back good memories.

Amazing!! Everything is the same here in Sweden. I guess children are the same around the globe ;-D

Here in Britain we call them woodlice as you say on the post it. Great 5* lens.
We used to live in a very old house with a log burner stove and I can remember putting logs on and all the woodlice evacuating and jumping into the hearth. I swept them up with a dustpan and brush and put them in the garden. After that I tried to peel the bark off logs before putting them on the fire.

My little sister and I would play with roly polies for hours when we were little! Did you know that there is a Roly Poly Playground on Amazon? (You can see it on my Sugar N' Spice lens.) Welcome to the Squid Kids Group. :)
  • Gandree Jun 17, 2008 @ 2:14 pm | delete
We called them roly polies back in the 50's and often found them in the grass around our back step. We all knew they didn't bite and could be safely played with.
