Unique Ways To Use Pillow Cases

Little did you know, these can be very valuble tools...

It happens to all of us: over the years, we end up with a collection of miss-matching sheets and pillow cases, sitting in a closet somewhere in our house. Ready to get rid of 'em? Don't! Pillow cases can be extremely valuable. Say hello to those old pillow cases - they're your new best friend!

Store and Protect Things

If you have valuable leather purses that you are no longer using but still want to keep, store them in a pillow case and put them in a closet. The case will keep the purse protected from dust and such.

If you want to store sheet sets, put them in the according pillow case to keep everything in a set together!

Line the bottom of your dresser drawers.

Cut a small hole at the top of the pillow case and slip it over a hanger to protect valuable clothing from dust or pet fur in your closet.

When you travel, use pillow cases to keep your dirty laundry seperated from the rest of your clothes!

Decorate!

Old pillow cases with sassy or retro patterns can really jazz up a room!

My favorite way to "snaz" up a room is to cover the back of a chair in a decorative pillow case. This will only really work if the chair does not have arms on it.

Cut the pillow cases into rectangles to make decorative placemats or napkins when you entertain guests.

Place against the back shelves to give a bookshelf some character.

Fold in half and set under the base of a lamp.

Clean With Them

Cut the cases into small squares and use them as extra rags to use when you're cleaning and dusting.

Use them as mini one-time-use trash bags for small bathroom trash cans.

Use them to wax and/or dry your car.

Other Miscellaneous Uses!

  • Line your dog's bed - it'll add some cushioning and I'm sure your dog wouldn't mind cuddling up with something that has your scent on it!
  • If you are particularly crafty, you can even use the material from the pillow cases to make a shirt/sweater for your small dog or cat.
  • Cut into long, thin strips and use as unique shoe laces for sneakers.
  • Put them under your pet's water bowl to keep the floor from getting soaked.
  • Use them as "cushions" for your items in boxes while moving.

My favorite use of a clean pillow case was to use it to dry washed loose-leaf lettuce. Who needs a salad spinner!?

I like the suggestion of cleaning with them. Good idea. I also demote mismatched pillow cases to car-camping, along with older pillows. They also make good laundry bags when travelling. Anyhoo, very handy lens.

Hey, who knew! The title of your lens totally grabbed my attention. What great ideas and loved your lens. Although I always thought those mis-matched pillow cases hung out with that lone single sock missing their mate LOL - Kathy

Great ideas. We also used to make a costume out of pillowcases. They were so cute. Thanks for some more very clever suggestions for those old extra pillow cases.
