What Does the Pimsleur Dari Course Teach?

If you're in the military, an aid worker, or a government official working in Afghanistan, then the ability to converse in the major dialects of the country is critical to your job and perhaps even survival. While there are a variety of languages spoken in Afghanistan, Dari or Dari Persian is the principal language along with Pashto.

Until recently, the language learning material available for Dari was rather limited. Pimsleur had only released the introductory Pimsleur Basic Dari Persian. Pimsleur has however finally release the Pimsleur Dari Comprehensive course.

The course consists of thirty audio lessons and a cultural notes guide. The audio lessons focus on every day scenarios and include standard greetings and introductions, basic directions, basic restaurant and eating situations, shopping, counting, and time. The first level provides roughly 350 words or so in a variety of phrase configurations which is key to expanding your ability to communicate.

While you may have a large vocabulary, if you are not familiar with the mechanics of the language, or accustomed to responding to real time, questions and responses, the benefits of it can be significantly reduced. Pimsleur Dari builds on a modest vocabulary and trains you to maximize its effectiveness.
