Learn a Foreign Language with Dr. Paul Pimsleur

For some people, the mere thought of learning a foreign language sends them into a complete state of panic. This is understandable if you have ever struggled through a foreign language course before, or perhaps you have never been exposed to foreign language instruction. Maybe you could use a little help passing that college language course so you can graduate. If the time has come for you to learn a foreign language, rest assured that there is absolutely nothing to fear. Not only can learning a foreign language be easy, simple, and stress-free, but it could be one of the best decisions you've ever made!

You can learn nearly any foreign language in a rapid amount of time, just as you learned to speak English. Dr. Paul Pimsleur is a foreign language instructor who is well-known for developing a method of learning foreign language that is effective, quick and easy. The foundation of his instruction is listening to actual native speakers and learning to converse in that language. You have the option of downloading his lessons to your own personal computer, MP3 player, or you could choose to burn the lesson to a CD and play the lesson at your leisure.

Open Your Mind and Heart to Norwegian!

If you are planning to visit Europe, consider making a stop in breathtaking Norway. Although one would typically expect this country to be cold given its position at the edge of the global temperate zone, the climate is actually very mild and pleasant. The northern most parts of Norway are a bit more chilly, but that's where you can find the best skiing and other snow activities. And while most of the country is mainly scenic, you can find great city life in cities like Oslo. Keep in mind that some of the best European food is found in Norway - especially the chocolate!

Until the nineteenth century, Danish was the official language of Norway. Overtime, as Norway developed into its own country, the Danish language was slowly dissolved. With two official forms of Norwegian in place (referred to as "new Norwegian" and "book language"), everyone is educated in both forms. However, tourists are usually just expected to be familiar with "book language". The difference between the two dialects are quite impressive. New Norwegian is based on Norwegian culture and is opposite of Danish, while book language is derived mainly from the Danish language. The accent of Norwegian can be a little tricky to narrow down - it's a pitch accent with two distinct syllables. Because of this, it is important to learn Norwegian by listening to a native and then applying the lessons you've learned.
