Decorating For Christmas With Pine Cones

Pine cones decorations are easy to make and low cost or free if you have them in your back yard, or know a friend or neighbor who has a pine tree or other evergreen.

You can leave your pine cones in their natural state, or paint them, decorate them, or scent them up.

Pine cones can be made into table centerpieces, a part of your table decor, beautiful wreaths, Christmas ornaments, and garlands.

Scent them up and pine cones can do double duty bringing holiday cheer to your household.

Make a Pine Cone Topiary

I made this simple pine cone topiary to decorate my fireplace mantle at Christmastime.

What you'll need:
~A large pine cone
~A 5-6"" sturdy stick
~Floral foam (like you use for flower decorating)
~A 6" flower pot
~Sphagnum moss
~A hot glue gun
Use the hot glue gun to glue the pine cone to one end of the stick. Cut out a piece of the floral foam to fit inside the flower pot.

Push the other end of the stick into the floral foam (you can put a little hot glue on that end to help hold the topiary in place.

Lightly place sphagnum moss around the top of the flower pot to hide the mechanics.

You can frost, paint, or add glitter to your pine cone or flower pot to add some extra bling.

Make A Pine Cone Garland

You can make a pine cone garland with the extra pieces of evergreen you snip off of your Christmas tree. If you have evergreens growing in your yard you can snip a couple branches (especially off the bottom), and no one will notice.

You can also purchase fresh greens, or a plastic garland. Add the pine cones to the garland by placing them in after the garland is set where you want them. You can wire the pine cones in, or just place them where you want them.

Usine Pine Cones For Table Decorations

You can mix pine cones with fresh greens to make beautiful table centerpieces, or scatter them around candles (just be careful they can't catch fire).

You can use floral wire to wire the pine cones into your greens arrangement, or let them float free on the table.

Add a beautiful bow, or some other flowers and greenery and you have a low cost beautiful table decoration.

Yes! I have a basketful of cinnamon-scented pine cones sitting on my coffee table. I also use small cones as trees for my "snowy" village. My grandkids love the mini houses, library, city hall, church, etc., especially when I turn off our main lights and switch them on.
