Im so excited to be a part of the Squidoo Community, that I had to find something that I could share with ALL Squidoo Lensmasters! While Im sure that Im not the only Lensmaster to use this tool, I wanted to make sure that EVERY Lensmaster knows that this is available to them. Ok so what am I talking about? Im talking about a free service called Pingoat.

Pingoat is a service that pings or notifies a number of services that keep track of weblogs and publish them. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog(or lens) has been updated and hence, they crawl and index your site(or your lens), publishing your blog (or lens) content, thus increasing your blog's or lenses popularity.

How To Ping Your Lens At Pingoat

When pinging your lens you'll need 3 things:

1. Title Of Your Lens

2. Lens URL
http://www.squidoo.com/[yourlensnamegoeshere]/

3. Lens Feed URL
http://www.squidoo.com/xml/syndicate_lens/[yourlensnamegoeshere] with NO forward slash at the end.

Note FYI: You can find your lens feed URL on the upper right side of your lens where it says Like this page? You will see the orange RSS icon. This is your Feed URL. Go ahead subscribe to your own Feed if you havn't already.

Select all the services you wish to ping, then when your finished at the bottom click on Go Pingoat

That's it you're done. Make sure you go back everytime you update your lens!

Add your Lens to your Home pages and Bookmark pages and....

Ok let's take it one step further, so we can get a double whammy indexing :-) Newest addition at the bottom of this module to add ALL yoour sites to for indexing. Here we go:

Add your lens to your Google home page, as well as your MyYahoo page and the same for My MSN. Each of these different engines allow you to add your own RSS feeds or websites to your pages via URL or Feed URL, once you do this you will be indexed, it can't get any easier than that.

Another thing you can do is add your sites to your bookmarks in each of the search engines. Each of these engines allow you to keep track or "Bookmark" your favorite links and pages. When you add these bookmarks the engines crawl the pages you submit.

And yet one more thing you can do. Make sure you subscribe to your own lens feed via your favorite Feed Reader.

Hint: One of my favorites is Google Reader, because I can share every post with all my contacts, plus add tags so people can find them. So they will see my lenses or blog posts or whatever. The main point is you will get indexed again via the RSS feed readers.

I guess you have your work cut out for you and I really hope this helps you! When I find other useful techniques I will post them here!

Now for even more fun for Gmail users!

Make sure you read all of this before you judge, its mostly for fun, but I see how it could have potential.

Web Clips in your Gmail account show you news headlines, blog posts, RSS and Atom feeds, and relevant sponsored links, right at the top of your inbox.

Each clip displays the source from which it was received, how long ago the clip was published, and a link to access the entire story or page containing the clip.

From your inbox, you can scroll through clips you've already seen by clicking the left arrow or see new clips by clicking the right arrow.

To customize Web Clips for Gmail:

Log in to Gmail.

Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Web Clips tab.

Browse popular clips by selecting a topic link along the left. Search for feeds by entering topics that interest you -- use this feature like you would Google Search.

Or, enter specific feed URLs. (Hint Hint: Like Your Feed URLs!)

Click Add next to the clips you'd like to see in Gmail.

To remove a clip, visit the Web Clips tab under Settings and click remove next to the clip. To disable clips entirely, uncheck the box next to Show my web clips above the Inbox.

Note: Clips of your favorite RSS and Atom feeds are displayed randomly, and aren't targeted to the contents of your mail.

Why would you want to do this? Ok I'll tell you. This will get your feed indexed by Google too! Plus it has the potential that you could tell your subscribers about it and maybe they'll add Your Feed to their 'Web Clips'. It's also a fun way to keep up with your favorite feeds while your checking your email.
