Pink Diamond Rings

Pink diamonds increase in value as their weight (carats) and the intensity of their color increases. The source of the the most intensely colored natural pink diamonds is the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia, which has operated for more than 25 years. These pink diamonds are very rare accounting for only about 0.025% of the diamonds mined in the Argyle diamond mine.

The reason why the diamonds are pink instead of colorless is not completely known, but it is thought that it may be due to immense heat and pressure on the diamond after it is formed, jostling the carbon atoms inside the diamond from their normal positions, altering the way the light is reflected by the diamond, making it appear pink to our eyes.

Because these naturally pink colored diamonds are so expensive, diamonds can be treated to make them pink. These treated pink diamonds are much more affordable for the general public. Most of the pink diamond rings featured on this page contain treated diamonds.

Clarity - the appearance of flaws on the diamond
* F = flawless (extremely rare)
* IF = internally flawless (very rare)
* VVS1, VVS2 = very, very slightly included (flawed)
* VS1, VS2 = very slightly included (flawed)
* SI1, SI2 = slightly included (flawed) - can only be detected under 10x magnification, not by the naked eye
* I1, I2, I3 = inclusions (flaws) visible to the naked eye
